Rasikas should recall that the awardee in the first edition was Sri M S Goplalakrishnan.During the occassion a unique violin concert by Mysore Nagaraj and Manjunath
along with Ganesh and Kumaresh was featured.I attended the function and Sri MSG made a simple speech after accepting the award.
In the second edition apparently, there is no specific topic on MSG.Bangalore Gayana Samaja has recognized Sri MSG in the first edition itself. It may be possible that a lecture program may still be included based on the availability, but not yet announced .

H N Bhagavan from Bangalore,

I attended the second day of festival - Flute concert by Vijaya Gopal.I was shocked to find only around 10 persons in the auditorium at Gayana Samaja.
Later, the number was around 30-40 max.He gave a good recital with Mysore Srikanth,Jaya chandra rao and Vyasa Vittal.
People flock only for Sudha or TMK or Sanjay. It was a shock treatment for the organisers who have put tremendous effort to organise the event.

DEAR RASIKAS,

IT IS A VERY DISAPPOINTING NUMBER OF RASIKAS AT THE BANGALORE GAYANA SAMAJA FOR THE Vaadya Vaibhavam .
A grand concert by Lalgudi Siblings is scheduled on Sun Aug 11,2011 at 06:00 PM which will be a concert dedicated to the great LALGUDI sir.
I request the rasika forumites to join for a great concert on Aug 11 (sun).

Kudos to Sri Kumaresh and Jayanti Kumaresh who along with Bangalore Gayana Samaja arranged the Vddya Vaibhavam festival. The Prize money of Rs 50,000/- was presented to Sri Vikku Vinayakaram,Ghatam exponent with the title Nadasri.
A grand finale was an excellent concert by Lalgudi siblings with arjun kumar and guru prasanna.
the services of Kumaresh to sponsor the festival is laudable.

First Kudos and sincere appreciation to Vid. Kumaresh and Vid. Jayanthi for sponsoring and supporting the program. I attended the Lalgudi duet y'day (and a review posted). For personal reasons, I have been unable to attend the concerts this year including the rasikas meet in bangalore - realized that two kids are three to four times the work :)

That said - the publicity for the above program was well below par. Unless my eyes have failed me, there was no prominent news item or mention in the cultural section either in Prajavani (Fri/Sat/Sun) or Hindu (daily) - that I get. Even Jayan's site carried this very late. IMO - since the passing away of the doyen Kamalanath and the energetic Seetharam - the Samaja activities have taken a downward trend especially in the mindshare and making their presence felt. While I applaud them organizing this event - especially nagaswaram - they seriously fall short in spreading the word. I attended one of their monthly concerts and it was no different. Smaller organizations such as BTM Cultural academy, Nadasurabhi seem to do a much better job. Usually you have snippets in the Hindu by Ranjani Govind etc before the program. This is not a fault finding mission - but if someone can let the samaja know that they need to get their old energy back and do a better job in organization - given what the Samaja has meant to music in bangalore.
