V SUBRAMANIAM
Vidwan V Subramaniam (79 Years) mama died of heart attack today morning. A thorough gentleman. Virtually worshiped his Guru Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. A great devotee of Sringeri Sankaracharya. Personally a sad day for me & my family. May his soul rest in rest in peace.

Re: V SUBRAMANIAM
Sincere condolences. I am shocked to hear this.
Sri V Subrahmaniam participated in the rasikas.org interactive session with Sri Trichy Sankaran. His questions and insights that day were extremely valuable. During that conversation, he expressed that he had not had the good fortune of Sri Sankaran's accompaniment despite having shared the stage with him when he was singing backup vocals for SSI on hundreds of occasions. IIRC, the very next season, VS and TS performed together!
Sri VS was a treasure trove of musical knowledge, a great teacher and person deeply devoted to his musical guru (SSI) and spiritual guru (Sringeri Acharya).
He was a very good friend of our family. I always enjoyed running into him at the Music Academy during the season where he was a regular presence. He was always courteous, generous and he would even sometimes ask a nobody like me what I thought of the concert. I remember telling him on some random occasion that I liked Western Classical music. And when Zubin Mehta performed the Tsunami relief concert at the academy (2005), he sent me his personal ticket!
He breathed music and you could always catch him humming a ragam (he does an amazing hemavati). A sharp critic but a very kind soul. His presence in the great halls of the academy will be sorely missed. I will miss him personally a great deal.
Sincerely,
Ramesh Balasubramaniam
