My picks from Parivadini's webcast of Naada Inbam concerts

Post by musiclistener1221 »

Thanks to Parivadini's initiative with their webcasts of concerts, I could get a chance to listen to concerts that I missed during the season this year. I got a chance to listen to almost all of the vocal concerts at Naada Inbam that were posted by Parivadini. Amongst the youngsters, there were a few vocalists that I particularly enjoyed listening to. I have listed these concerts here. Please note that this is just my humble opinion that I wanted to share with the group based on what is posted by Parivadini

1. Amritha Murali: I attended her concert at the MA and it was a very good concert. As mentioned by another rasika on this forum, the soukhyam in her singing is one of a kind. A memorable performance indeed that was uplifted by RKSK on violin and AP on mridangam

2. Bharathi Ramasubban: I didnt attend any of her concerts in person this year. Her strengths are her powerful voice and good pronounciation. It was a well balanced concert with the right amount of emotion and poise. Her concert made me want to listen to more of her.

3. Sumitra Vasudev: I attended her concert at the MA and enjoyed it. Her music clearly shows that she is technically sound. I like the way she expanded on the ragam and her sahityas were clear. Hopefuly more manodharma comes across in her music.

4. Aishwarya Vidya Raghunath: I couldn't attend her concert this season. I enjoyed listening to her concert at Naada Inbam. She has a rich voice and is traditional in her presentation - these are her biggest strengths. Overall, it was a well-planned concert at Naada Inbam.

5. Bharat Sunder: I attended his concert at BGS as well this year. His concert at Naada Inbam was brisk and lively. His presentation was effortless and confident. I liked listening to him. I think his concert will be uplifted if he develops some more emotional content in his music.

Her Naada Inbam concert (2 Jan?) was wonderful. Extremely powerful. For some reason she finished at 8.15pm, but I still felt musically satisfied.

In the context of her being one of my favourite artists, I have, in previous years, enjoyed her MA concerts less than others. They seem to be a little stiffer and more formalised. Perhaps that is the Academy environment. This year, I did enjoy her MA concert very much.

I don't think there is any less manodharma in her music. I think she is blessed with a beautiful voice, is a great performer in her own right, and a worthy representative of her great teacher --- although she herself once told me off for making any such comparison. Doubtless, rightly so!

Great effort from this group of enthusiasts from Parivadini.
I too am enjoying what I missed during the season, thanks to their untiring efforts at web casting the concerts.
One commendable job they have done is in instituting the Fernandes award for the mridangam makers. Selvam richly deserves the award for his untiring efforts in making high quality mridangam s for the artistes.
