A brilliant concert by Swarna Rethas on the 2nd day of Geetham sangeetham organized by FIne Arts.

Sanjay will be proud of his shishya who delivered a mind blowing concert.

I loved every second of the concert. He has a wonderful voice .

A very Sanjayish list starting from TIger Varadacharis kalyani varnam to MDR thillana Rethas he made his guru proud.
The begada,Poorvi kalyani and Karaharapriya aalaap were simply outstanding.
He has imbibed sanjay's masterful singing less mannerism at the same time bringing his own pidis as seen in Begada and Karaharrapriya
It has been a long time a good karaharapriya was heard and it was today Rethas fulfilled it .I just loved it

The tukkadas too were thoroughly enjoyable with aadum chidambaramo being icing on the cake .

Most of the songs were not heard recently except for ninaye rathi and was very soothing

Rajeev on the violin was able supporter.Ganapathiraman was playing along with Rethas giving right pauses and was soothing to ears.

A very satisfying and brilliant concert from Rethas.I would wish he sings more.

Ravi,
You can also hear it on youtube--Sanjay singing it at Devan's centenary concert. You can find it at Rasikas.org in Pasupathy's thread about it. Sanjay's own blog has it too.

Would be nice to have a clip from Swarna's concert of another item. Good to hear his concert went very well!

There are a couple of classic renditions of Sri Mathah Siva Vamanke (Begada). One by Alathur Srinivasa Iyer (who had apparently learnt this krithi from Veena Karaikudi Sambasiva Iyer). Begada alapana in a husky voice of Srinivasa Iyer is superb. Alathur Brothers hailing from Trichy, used to render this krithi on Goddess Akilandeswari (Thiruvanaikoil). There is also another exquisite rendition by Kalpagam Swaminathan. Another musician who used to sing this krithi is Tiruvengadu Jayaraman (disciple of Madurai Mani Iyer).

Hope you luck out! As we all know, Sanjay is known for bringing in more new 'uruppaDi'-s (old word for songs) into his concerts every year. He sang nAdOpAsana before that. bEgaDa by any composer is sweet to hear. Still, this happens to be a special song. Then there is kaDaikkaN vaithennai ALammA in tamizh...

Yes, Agreed, Kudos to the research to expand the repertoire selection by reviving some of the great songs which are almost forgotten or out of circulation.
Huge fan of Malasai Kobam (Jonpuri), Therivinil Nadava (Madhyamavathi), Paniyinvin thuliragave (Harikamboji ?) , Mannum Pugazh Kosalai (Ragamalika), Emandune Muddu (coffee ? ?i ), …

One of these days, I am hoping that he would sing Gopikathilakam full of pathos, esp. Asai Konden Vande (Gopikathilakam), of Salem Desikan fame.
Sanjay has sung Gopikathilakam in a raga malika sloka.
