Lalgudi Rajalakshmi
A writeup of a concert of vidushi Lalgudi Rajalakshmi - sister of LGJ and Lalgudi Brahmanandam. She is also the mother of vainika Jayanthi kumaresh .Now she can be also known as maternal grandmother of Abhishek Raghuram. The below concert was held in a sabha whose patron was another sister of Lalgudi , vidushi vainika Padmavathi Ananthagopalan. What a family of musicians they are :ymapplause:

Rajesh,
She accompanied her grandson in a concert recently in Blr!
There is also a concert in Parvathi Blog 1989 Sudha Raghunathan where she has accompanied on violin. I have heard her on many occasions especially in BTM Cultural Academy.

Rajesh, Thank you for starting this thread.
I have heard her a few times and on one occasion when she accompanied her grandson Abhishek. She is magnificent!
For some reason, I have never heard her with LGJ himself. Although I found this video where she is playing with GJR Krishnan (very unusual combo). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXAJ7LLcMFY Look how much she is enjoying the classic Lalgudi mohanam!
She has been a great guru to many individuals including Flute V.K. Raman (brother of violinist Mysore Srikanth) and also Sindhuja from our forum. Hope Sindhuja can add more about her here.

Happy to see this thread! Wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't found it in the traffic sources for the website (I created and maintain it). Lalgudi Mami is indeed a great artiste and a teacher.

sindhuja
I assumed you played a significant part in the website of your guru now with you stating - congratulations and job well done . That also means there is nothing stopping from you writing about your guru right here in this thread. While we all know a lot about LGJ , rest of the siblings of LGJ we hardly know about them.

Re: Lalgudi Rajalakshmi
Thank you rajeshnat.
Mami moved to Bangalore several decades ago after marriage. If I'm right both mami and her husband (who is no more) contributed greatly to BTM cultural academy and she has performed there regularly over the years. I started learning from her only in 2007 and her Bangalore apartment was always abuzz with students and musicians (what with so many in the family!). Back to back classes (vocal, violin, veena and until some years ago, flute) would go on from morning to late evening, and I've stayed with her for many days on a quite a few occasions to learn. I had the privilege of interacting with her mother at close quarters too. She's one of the most affectionate and endearing paattis I've met.
Mami recently moved to Coimbatore - which is where the concert with Lalgudi Krishnan linked here was performed.
Needless to say, the loss of her older daughter (Abhishek's mother) was a big one for mami, but she continues to teach and perform with as much passion and dedication, which is very inspiring. She keeps shuttling between Coimbatore, Bangalore, and Chennai and I wonder where she gets the energy from.
PS: Website updated with more pictures and audio.

Kal,
First of all, welcome to Rasikas.org! I read a few of your posts and along with others, am very happy to have you among us! As an aside, more women power, the better
Yes, a very special interview it is. Thanks to Parivadini, we got to share more of the Lalgudi heritage. The link was posted in the Parivadini thread in the General Discussions section recently. Hope more folks get to see this.
