On attending and representing members of rasikas.org at the award function, I suggest and request Sri V.Govindan Sir, Sri H.N.Bhagavan Sir to attend. I am not aware of Sri Srkris/VK being at Chennai to attend. VG and HNB who suggested relief and action. VK and Srkris who gave the admin support. If Sri Nageshwaran Sir is back to Chennai, I have no doubt, he will attend. I need to attend only, if all of them are unable to attend.
If all the other forunites, who are Chennai based like Sri Nick.H.Sir, Sri Venkat Sir also can join, it would be mini meet before the rasikas 2014 meeting in December'14 (which I would not like to miss).

I was happy to meet you at Bangalore Gayan Samaja though briefly.Pl send me a mail - [email protected] convey my heartfelt thanks for your unstinting efforts
in this cause and made it happen.happen. Ravikiran and Shashikiran also deserve to be congratulated for having taken up this noble cause thru carnatica.
However I may not be able to make it for the benefit concert.I am scheduled to visit Chennai for a week during the season.
I hope deserving people will be identified and rewarded thru TAWF.
The award function is mentioned as Oct 2,2014 - must be Nov 2,2014.

It is deeply disturbing that abysmally a very small insignificant number (percentage) of members have only joined and contributed to this very noble cause. With Deepavali ushering light, shall we celebrate the festival of a great number of forunites joining the cause and contribute during the critical final week before the award function on 2nd, November,14 ? With rasikas not belonging to our rasikas.org. getting to know about rasikas.org now and during the event, let them have the inspiring example of joining the cause and commitment, for this cause and any similar cause being taken up in the future. Make us to stand up with pride, when any reference is made(which is definitely likely to happen) at the award opening moments about rasikas.org.

This forum looks at Carnatic music as free lunch.I am sure that there are many forumites who are influential and in good corporate positions.My appeal is to strengthen the hands of Carnatica and make the contribution a significant one.Inspite of electronic Tambura's presence,there are a good number of Musicians preferring manual Tambura.
In order to take up more fund raising activities in future for helping dedicated and deserving musicians,I request you to contribute in large numbers.There are many among Upa Pakavadyams who need help.

1. Taking into consideration the short time and logistics, selection has been made to honor FIVE Tambura Artists/Technicians for CAC-T.A.W.F.-2014, based in Chennai.

2. It is also decided that donor/day pass for the Vid.Aruna Sairam and the Award Function will be issued to the members who have joined the cause and has planned to attend both the concert and the award function. Regret to inform that nominees/authorized representative(s) of members who have joined the cause can not be accommodated.

3. Besides, Sri CRama who has confirmed attending the concert and the award function, I request other members to confirm, immediately attendance. The daily/donor passes shall be collected by me and the members to collect the passes from me at 3.30p.m.SUN2-NOV'14.

4. Tomorrow,TUE28,OCT,14 there is a press meet at 4.30p.m. at Woodlands Hotel, Mylapore, Chennai. The CAC-T.A.W.F. will also be briefed to the press. Press will report on this initiative. Rasikas/Music patrons are likely to join the cause.

A brief report on the press meet on Bharath Sangeeth Utsav-2014 and CAC-T.A.W.F.-2014.-SUN28-OCT-2014-Venue Mini Hall, New Woodlands Hotel, Mylapore, Chennai
1) Sri KNS and Sri Krishnamoorthy, Secretary, Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, Chennai briefed the press on the schedule and also the special programs and features in this year's edition.
2) Sri Anil Srinivasan joined the press briefing and informed about the program planned for the first time in this BSU2014, Thematic presentation on Dance and Music. All the artists are going to perform in US of A, within seven days for the first time in US of A.
3) Sri KNS informed that they take up a worthy cause and CAC-T.A.W.F.-2014 is for this year.
4) On the request of Sri KNS and Sri Krishnamoorthy, I briefed the press on rasikas.org and about the T.A.W.F. I requested press-both print and visual(DDPothigai and Thanthi TV) to give this story its due importance and make the 'siry tuli, peru vellam'. On behalf of Sri Sivaramakrishnan, founder, rasikas.org, I conveyed his thanks giving message to all the members and rasikas who have joined the cause and contributed.
When the members of the press were given opportunity for Q&A, very few questions were raised, like donor passes and the program.

I had discussed with Sri Ashok Kumar, CAC on the issuance of receipts. Sri Ashok Kumar requested all the members who have remitted the funds to send them the email of contact details and the cause. The receipts will be sent either to the members directly and they may be sent to me for the dispatch of receipts.
I request all the members, once again to send the information by email to carnaticamusic.com.

I regret for the error in this post. In the press meet briefing this error did not take place.
The Hindu's special correspondent's report also did not convey correctly. The report failed to mention the initiative of CAC-T.A.W.F., supported by the members of rasikas.org. Also report failed to mention that Vid.Aruna Sairam is giving a benfit fund raiser concert on 2nd, November. I hope other members of the press will report correctly.

I think what they quoted you is just perfect and precise but that article is so incoherent. I am glad the title of the article is about the fund raising but it did not set up the context correctly. People will be wondering what is rasikas.org 's involvement in this. Anyway, we will take it, this should definitely spread the word. Thanks again for your efforts in making this happen.

About what Sri. Ashok Kumar said, hope what he meant is that those who have not send that email should do that. I do not think people who have sent the email need to resend the emails to the same email account.

The press correspondents and editors were given the written brief in addition to the oral briefing in the press meet. The mistakes must have been avoided. I hope the reports in the other dailies/magazines/others report correctly. DD Pothigai and Thanthi telecasts will be free from error, subject to editing mistakes.
The request for sending the details to be given to carnaticmusic.com, once again for abundant caution was to avoid omission(s) in the issuance of receipts.
One deep felt disappointment is that with the collective efforts and appeals, vast majority of forunites did not join the cause and support, till now.
Sri KNS has made arrangement with Sri Cleveland Sundram to give his US of A account details to enable the forunites of US of A to transfer the funds to his designated account with contact details and the cause. On receipt of the details, I shall post them here.

I just saw that . I thank muni rao, sashikiran and entire carnatica team. Also very nice of Smt aruna sairam honoring and also Ghatam karthick adding his punch. Let this award bring in more tambura artists in the future .I am assuming while many of them I have seen them in chennai ,few of them are from other southern states whom I have not seen them playing tambura here at chennai.

It is very very nice feeling that we crossed the finish line and I am glad I participated actively for their future financial needs.

Myself and Mr and Mrs.Nageswaran also attended this function as members of rasikas family. The function was organised very well and it was a pleasant sight Aruna Sairam honouring nine tambura vidwans. I again thank Munirao for the persuasion he was making in this forum for members to come up for this worthy cause. At one point of time, even I was not optimistic about the outcome. But things changed when Vidwans Ravikiran and Shashikiran entered the scene. We should be thankful to Shashikiran and Carnatica for managing this inititative very efficiently. Shashikiran spoke about the credentials of each recipient while announcing their names. So they are not from other states as Rajesh has observed. Perhaps now they may not be that active on the dais. He also mentioned and thanked the rasikas.org for this initiative. I am happy that I also participated in a small way for this noble cause.

Madam Aruna Sairam deserves the gratitude from the bottom of our hearts for this venture. The amount became substantial because of the large heartedness of Aruna Sairam to do the benefit concert for this noble cause.

I was waiting for the details and hence refrained from posting a reply.
Sri KNS has confirmed that total amount of contribution of few members of rasikas.org is appx.Rs.75,000/-. Sri KNS has contributed Rs.25,000/- and Sri Ravikiran has pledged Rs.10,000/-. Total contribution received is Rs.1,00,000/-. This fund has been retained for honoring few more artists. Out of the proceeds of donor passes collections out of the concert of Vid.Aruna Sairam, Nine artists, based in Chennai and recommended by the musicians were honored with a shawl and a cash award of Rs.8,000/- was given to each one of the artist.

I see 8 eight artists(not 9) only honoured as per your past post. They are
Sri S. Venkataraman, Sri.Venkata Subba Rao, Sri S.Ganesan, Smt. L.Vijayalakshmi, Sri S.Hariharan, Sri.Mani, Sri Lakshminarayanan, and Sri S.Vaidyanathan.

Just a humble suggestion , roughly 60% of the kitty has reached the artists(Rs 64,000 + cost of shawls). As suggested by you as and when you honor more artists , please do put up the other artists that you honored along with the amount for the sake of completeness , let it be done very quickly. Please also cover other tambura artists in other cities like Bangalore , Coimbatore , Trivandrum , Mumbai etc . Appreciate all of your effort .

Perhaps it is not so much, but I wish that money was not spent on shawls, which one cannot eat, and does not need the warmth in Chennai.

If it is felt that something should be given apart from cash, then why not a vesti or sari?

It is heartening to know that senior Tambura artists were honored with cash prize.Though the amount is not high,It has served the purpose.I am sure with this having seen a logical conclusion ,I am sure that any such new venture will get greater participation from members.It is time to start another campaign - Rasika and Carnatica partnership.
Even a contribution of Rs 1000/by 1000 members of Rasika will give a sizable corpus.This corpus can now be extended to cover Pakavadyam and upa pakavadyam artists also.
The collection can be thru Carnatica.

I endorse HNB's suggestion--I will definitely support similar initiatives in future-Count me amongst the army of foot soldiers. My only concern is that the artistes like RK and SK(Carnatica) should not be burdened too much with admin work. Muni Rao has done an outstanding job in this regard and he too should not be burdened with having to chase commitments made by Forumites. As it is there are too many trusts being formed by various artistes and they all appear to fade after a start with a bang. With forumites scattered across the world those of us who live abroad should make the admin/coordinators job less stressful.

I would only caution that any new initiative be tempered with sustainability in mind!!!

Carnatica conducts music festivals on a regular basis.The extra effort is only the funds collection and identification of artists.Already Carnatica has established a mechanism for fund collection and the funds are administered by Carnatica.Hence no new organisational effort is required.What is most required is more number of Forumites coming forward and pledging support for this cause.
Sri KNS and Ravikiran hopefully will continue the support thru the organisation.

T.A.W.F.-2 event is being planned with Bengaluru Sangita Utsav-2014 of Carnatica, at Bengaluru. Artists/technicians located at Bengaluru will be considered and selected for the award.
I am appealing to all the forunites who are interested to join this initiative, please confirm your pledge and send the funds to CAC. The details for the remittance is available for ready reference in this thread.

Sri Chitraveena Ravi Kiran has Musicians Benefit Fund. I am of the opinion as members of rasikas.org, we should plan two annual fund contribution-One for the artists and the second for the technicians. Depending upon the availability of SriRK and Sri KNS, the funds management organization can be decided.
I also desire that forunites should consider sponsoring One concert-Nagasvaram/Saxophone/Clarinet; Veena/Chitraveena/mandolin and Venu, annually. We should identify one Sabha each at Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Tiruvananthapuram and contribute the funds for the event management. Each center/city for one year and in rotation, starting with Tiruvananathapuram.

Please participate in this discussion without any reservation and give your opinions.

I am requesting a contribution of Rs 1000/ by 1000 members of Rasika forum.This is an average number as some may contribute more and some less.But participation of more members for the cause is required.Annually if this much contribution is added to the corpus,the funds availability would increase.The activities you have mentioned can also be taken up in addition to rewarding the music community who generally are paid less than the main artists.This can be a long lasting CARNATICA-RASIKAS initiative.
