no more swara sthaanam mistakes
I am not too sure if there is a devise which can correct a music learner/enthusiast/even professionals to tell him/her on the swara sthaanams for at least some songs in raagas (to start with), and which can be updated with more and more raagas and compositions. Neraval could be thought out as another aspect. If such an instrument (or whatever you would like to call it), does not exist then I would like to humbly submit, for the consideration of the tech savvy/musically enlightened audience of Rasikas.
This can then further be extended to Taalas/Korvais/Mohraas/Nadais etc etc...
incidentally an article came in The Hindu today, titled
No more spelling mistakes, where a writing instrument has a tiny computer inside the pen, which points out errors in penmanship as well as spelling mistakes...revival of the dying art of writing...

Yes he did - It is the Swarasthana app for iPad. It has basic varisais and alankaarams. There is also a feature to test swarasthana suddham and figuring out the swaram. In addition, it also provides a visual of the taalam so a beginner can follow along with the taalam. Various raagams (melakarta and some non melakarta) can be chosen and there is some flexibility in adjusting speed , pitch and instrument as well.arasi wrote:Didn't Arun devise an app for this some time ago? Sruthilaya has basic varisais, alankaarams and geethams. It is available for android phones. This also has flexibility to change raagam (melakarta only), pitch, speed and instrument.

Could you please let me know the name of the shruthilaya one. unfortunately I could not try the Aruns app. I have no iphone. With the popularity of the android I gave up on these iphones. I wish there is one that works across all the apple so I could see that in macbook. These many platforms like android , bb, iphone, windows , all of these are making old schoolers like Arasi and My life miserable.
Right Arasi? These are joykillers.

The app is called Shruthilaya. There is also a free version called ShruthilayaLite that you can try out. It should be available on the app store for you to download.ganesh_mourthy wrote:Could you please let me know the name of the shruthilaya one. unfortunately I could not try the Aruns app. I have no iphone. Yes, I fully endorse Arun's Swarasthana app. Its swarasthana suddham feature is quite advanced which itself would normally sell for quite high prices but in these days of smartphone apps, that feature along with a whole lot of other very useful features can be had for the cost of a start bucks coffee.

You may also want to check on the computer music software Gaayaka (which I often refer to in my posts) in RasikaV2 developed by Mr. M Subramaniam of Chennai, a musician and a computer programmer: http://carnatic2000.tripod.com/.
It allows one to type any sequence of swaras and play them. It includes all melakartas. One can play the swaras in any desired speed by typing the desired time duration for one swaram. One can also choose a desired talam. I can go on and on about its features, but probably the best thing to do is for you to check it out yourself. The price is very reasonable for an amazing software.
I am extremely grateful that he produced this wonderful product (I am in no way related to him).

Re: no more swara sthaanam mistakes
thank you sung...let me look at that too...
my idea when sent earlier, was not to sing along, it had to be some instrument to correct or throw a red light when the swara sthaanam goes awry..
ShruthiLaya which I have downloaded does serve some purpose as a sing along, although I must say the raagam bit is a a suspect...

For that you have to try something like a singing tutor. You can see your notes graphically.

My niece who is training herself uses
1.Sing and See
2. Singing tutor
Both are good . you can see your singing or playing notes and correct it real time.
Both are Windows applications. I am not sure if they have an ipad or mac version.

the Rasika v2 that sung has mentioned is by far the best and almost like a teacher in the absence of one for very prelimnary note adherence. I am yet to make any notations for songs in it. But , even the varnams are good.

Re: no more swara sthaanam mistakes
I paid about $20 and placed an online order with https://www.mycommerce.com/ for 'singing tutor' on Mar 6. It was supposed to be an electronic delivery. I still haven't received the download link.ganesh_mourthy wrote:My niece who is training herself uses

Both are good .
The response to my first online enquiry about the status of the order told me only about how I could view my order online. Nothing about the status of the order. The order online says that I should contact the VIMAS Technologies (www1.vimas.com) about any questions about the product purchased (although it hasn't been delivered yet). There is still no response to my follow-up enquiry. There is no phone number on the website for me to contact them directly.
I also emailed VIMAS Technologies (which seems to be in Ukraine) and no response from them either. I am beginning to wonder whether this is a case of online cheating.
Ganesh_mourthy, where did your niece get the software from? I really like to buy it. Any information is very much appreciated.
If anybody else has any thought on the above order situation, please share also. Thank you in advance.

Hello Sung.
If the order has not been processed within a particular time you can cancel it suppose. But , did you try the trial version that should work for a month or so without purchasing. Pls try for a refund and send a mail to me.

I verified and why have you paid 20 dollar. It shoudl be 11 dollars after one month of trial if you liked.

G_M, thank you very much for the info. When I googled, I didn't find this link. The other site doesn't have any trial version. I should have thought about the trial version. Thanks again.ganesh_mourthy wrote:Sung
