I am hearing this concert today. I enjoy his music and this one is pretty good. He has great accompanists too in Nagai Sriram and Thiruvarur Bhakthavatsalam

Re: Saketharaman BSU 2015 Nov 6
A little more focus on sowkyam and a little less on aural acrobatics (rhythm supplanting melody) would have made the concert much more memorable.
The Good:
1. Voice and delivery has improved with less of a nasal tinge
2. Creative neraval invoking the names of the accompanists in Jaya Janaki kanta
3. Great raga alapanas
4. Nagai Sriram
The Bad:
1. Audio levels way too high
2. Complex and extra long korvai in main
3. Nagai Sriram's mustache
The Ugly:
1. Cacaphonic filler (anathudanu)
2. More cacaphony in the swara prasthara of the main

Re: Saketharaman BSU 2015 Nov 6
List of songs.
Jaya jaya jaya Janakikantha-Nata-PD (S)
Kalaharanamelara-Sudhasaveri-T (R)
Sasivadana-Chandrajothi-T(R,S)
Mariveregathi-Anandabhairavi-SS
Anadhudanu-Jingla -T
Evarimata-Kambodi-T (,N,S)
Thani
Kannane en kanavan or Kannanai kanpatheppo
Some people are prejudiced against Saketharaman's voice as it is on a higher sruti- in between a male and female voice. But slowly it is settling towards male voice. It was much more shrill earlier.
The swaras for Jaya jaya at various points in the kriti in sync with the artistes on the dias. That was a good attempt.
Alapanas of Chandrajothi and Kambodi very good - Saketharaman do score on manodharmam aspect. He belongs to the Lalgudi school.
Anathudanu- This belongs to those songs which are pepped up for effect before the main song or RTP. BHaktha's mridangam added to the cacaphony.
The decibel was high till the first half of the concert. Then people shouted and it was brought down. Still not at the tolerence level. Because of Bhaktha, it was loud only. As discussed in another thread, there was a mini thani at the end of each song. Neverthless, it was greeted with loud applause. His vidwath notwithstanding, mridangam was loud only throughout.
The swaras for the main song were rhythm oriented- to facilitate Mridangam to score high.
The final korvai was tooo long- but there are many others who do like this. That also may be for Bhaktha.
Nagai Sriram was excellent- his alapanas of right proportion, full of manodharmam and soft to the ears.
Congrats to Saketharaman and Nagai Sriram who have been chosen for Yuvakala bharathy award.
