Ninne nera nammitinayya - Mysore Vasydevachar, Natajana Paripalaka of Tyagarajar and Kamaksi Kamakoti are other songs sung as submain or main respectively. Rama Rama if sung well is the best choice to sing as main. Asaindaum mayil is good song no doubt but more suitable as filler or thukkada because of the tempo of the song. It does not have the required gait for a main song.

rAmA rAmA - agree; but this has been overdone by many multiple times. So something afresh would be welcome.

On asaindAdum, au contraire, me thinks that "asai pOdum Avinangal kandu andha adhisayathil silai pOla ninru" would lend itself to a gripping and superlative nereval with elaborate swarams fitting a main or submain pretty well rather than a thukkadA

I agree, and I think it makes it more challenging if singing Asaindadum as main - as one is battling against the common perception that the song is a less weighty item.

Neraval for vanaja nayana was a bit unsatisfactory due to padacheddham, split as vana jana etc.

The only nereval was in the maun s'madhyamam. Did you mean the pallavi itself?

She did not do any neraval in that song. She did neraval only in simendramadhyamam. Probably you are confused by listening to too many concerts.

Could be the swaraprasthara ending at the pallavi... this is not a commonly heard song (a definite +1 for that), so there is no chance of confusion.

Vanaja nayana = Lotus eyed
Vana jana = Forest people
