I like this place kalakruthi for one thing - this does not have that much crowd though the recent venue of spurtank road sankaralayam is worst in audio. The thagara dabba mixer and the two speakers are pathetic . Possibly I liked the sound engineer who was there say from 2003 to 2013 or so but he is now replaced by another sound man. Certainly a very difficult venue to fully comprehend any music in this auditorium . I saw the start at 06:00 and I thought I can come home bit early and spend my time with my family then cross the permanently digged metro rail of mount road to go to mile ah pour.

This is my second concert of listening live to Bharat sundar. He certainly has a strong voice and more importantly there is a lot of azhuttam and stickiness of carnatic sangathis.

The first varnam , i heard sami ninnE , not sure if the varnam is shree ragam i went late and the audio was terrible. The next kalyani continued in a terrible flow not because of bharat music but because of the sound set up. I have never heard this MD kalyani krihti shree mathurAmbiKe , may be it is not as awesome as the extraordinary kalyani MD krithi abhayambA but I felt I should hear once more as it had a nice aura of melakartha 65. There were some lovely sangathis in the second half of the krithi.

Thank god bharath sang bit closer and brought the mike few inches forward .I felt from shyama the audio was significantly better . The alapana in shyama by bharath was superb and in his aural layering of shyamA, he distinctly brought the greatest shyama alapana singer at least to me - the doyen semmangudi . I liked the krithi annapoornE but just ending without swaras was a bit of disappointment but shyama was the top pick.

No filler before main with another krithi - it is a small sabha and the audience count is pathetic , may be he went from there to main directly because of the low profile sabha. He sang a lovely simmhendra madhyamam alapana . His open throated sangathis in alapana were in many places like TNS and i loved it . He sang the krithi well but in neraval and swaras the excellence was not maintained that well as it was not too elaborate. His swaras in simmhendra madhyamam was more interesting in the second half - but felt he could have gone more .

The virutham was superb . I have not heard this nataraja pattu other than sanjay singing it . I could see a lot of sanjay-esque open throated sangathis in the virutham all 4 ragas were well done , particularly the second unidentifed one was superb and sindhubhairavi was well done . The alathur special krithi chandrasekear eesaa had few mini taans in the line sindhai theerka vandhu and was a great finish.

With he bringing in shades of ssi, tns and sanjay , the last thillana i thought it was one of BMK ones , never knew that he composes thillana. His own Mohanam thillana was quite tough to catch up with the lousy audio setup but he showed his mastery in composing for sure. Towards the second half the mohanam went bit northwards but overall a nice tillana.

The 4th generation Parur was a bit of his appa and also not like his appa . Like his appa - sundareswaran in alapana he takes a lot of fast glides getting close like his appa and unlike his appa during krithi he is not that intrusive and keeps his bow totally out. But with poor audio i felt he did a good job. Vijay Natesan is a sure star in the making - nice sunaadham in terms of asserting that mrudangam is a shruthi vadhyam and his part of tani was well received with the very limited audience. Also he plays beautifully for all songs where there is right mrudhu power with no overbanging with his angam . I think this is the second time I am hearing vijay natesan , the last time in tambaram and now here - wish he becomes like his guru TVG soon. I am seeing and hearing this morsing artist for the first time and with this lousy hall it is difficult to be judgmental , in general it is always difficult to give an opinion on morsing .

Bharat Sundar brings a right dose of brigas and he takes the best of musicians of past .He is well within atleast my own definition of sticking to the most important parameter of core carnatic sangeetham .The most important attribute is voice felicity with power and he has that in plenty. If he could bring more towels and put taalam that would help .He can optionally bring morsing next time ,but would love to hear a moresing vocalist .

Overall a very good to excellent concert for 2 hours and 10 minutes.
