From the days of hearing Prasanna for the first time roughly a decade + back , there is always an aura of carnatic intensity that Prasanna brings to my (?y ?h)ears in every concert . The concert was advertised to be held in SKGS main hall but was moved to SKGS kamakoti hall which makes sense as there was still lot of seats unoccupied in the smaller hall- I guess weekday being one main reason and concert being ticketed is another reason.Holding it in a big hall with a scattered audience is lot less worthy than holding in a small hall with more participating rasikas.
Prasanna carefully thought through and planned every number for the Gokulashtami series .The present trend of Lord Krishna in sabhas in chennai is to package as a DanceMore-MusicLess combo but in SKGS Mini for a change There was also a MusicMore concert of Lord Krishna.
Prasanna started with KAnadA the muse was spot on as he also teased with a raga sketch and gave a clean varnam . The volume of percussion especially bhoopathy was slightly on the higher side . Prasanna brings a nedunuri approach - i spotted that a lot in his kedaragowlai . Infact the nedanurian touch was notified to me by few reviewed posts , the swaras were bit too measured and I guess that is also bit of nedunuri there - the ragabhavam was very intense where you at times feel can it not go bit more with swaras after such musical intensity.
The submain was kind of fragmented with swaras in ganamurthi and neraval in shyama with a very anchored raga alapana for both. While the raga alapana in shyama stole my heart bit more, I was also very satisfied with ganamoorthi which has a bit limited scope in alapana and Prasanna may have to be excused for repetition . The swaras were firmly tagged with the bouncy percussion duo in gAnamurthi , in shyama neraval I thought he could have gone bit more in muse - but he cut short but gave enough of a musiri -bhavam thru his guru tkgovinda rao .
The nandagopala drop either before or after the main was perhaps championed by Maharajapuram santhanam and also by his latest guru sanjay and I liked the drop especially with the choppy dhrupad like murukku taps played by bhoopathy. A bhogeendra sayinam was well done with the second half sahityam repeated again just to give a little more dancing sangathi effect of kuntala varali- I guess many from semmangudi practiced it and I liked prasanna - i thought the joy of swaras will follow but it was not there.
The bhairavi came in with the right thrust of controlled power and No scream sangathis. I Liked the concise alapana and the krithi rendition was well done . I missed a bit more lazier lower 1st gear start with bala gopala ,but he took it from 2nd gear - bhairavi was very delicious . balagopala of MD and kamakshi of SS has to show every octave facet of bhairavi is my own theory and prasanna could have given a proof for the same. The neraval was in the 2nd most favoured line not neera but vainaka. His neraval was with sahithyam muse in mind. The swaras could have bit more jolly if it had bit more moved to nayana gAyaka after a round of lot of sangathis in vaiNika gAyaka , but overall it was really satisfying bhairavi .
All the tukkadas were sung with such ooomph and musical maturity and I enjoyed prasanna with his top notch presentation. His voice hit the right spot for all three raga maligas of pAsuram and I was reclining and relaxing and the hall skgs was like a srirangam arangam. The jump to ssi aravinda padamalar was not ssish but more like a concotion of KVN and Nedunuri. The last sadasiva brahmendra was very soothing and his rendition of gAyati vanamALi was slow with right diction and melody
SD Sridhar was slightly rough in first part but in bhairavi he played well . May be bhoopathy could have had a bit of slightly reduced volume , but his play with the most flamboyant touches of ghatam karthik made it as a percussion delight. They both certainly lifted prasanna and his music out of any possible sag(At times the vocalist can sag but the sag can be made unnoticed by the percussion team).

WHen his voice thins for few sangathis I felt may be he needs little more power like sanjay subrahmanyan , but when his voice soars i also felt he sings with right classical sowkhyam-power intersect which at times goes awry with sanjay subrahmanyan. He could have gone more but the concert was as usual curtailed to hover around 2 hours mark. I enjoyed Prasanna and was only frustrated with a earlier drop of mangalam.
Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours and 5 minutes .
