Was lucky to catch this at the auditorium. Totally impressed with such perfect hitting of notes.

Is there a "Sowmya" baani emerging? Lot of her style in her student.

Listened to the whole thing again until my internet went down during the main song. Was not at all tiring or overloading.

Assignment to rasikas: Watch this in full & put forward 3 aspects of what could possibly be characterized as "Sowmya" baani.

That pharas - seems particularly at a slower tempo as compared to other version (RKM). That thEdi unnaich charaNanaindhEn - lilting and catchy tune, great articulation (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dugotPARNWw by her guru, this is different to the version TNS has sung in a cassette). Those two are picks in a garland of very good list!

Agree. Much nicer than the 'ninnaye rathi endru' also sung in a similar mettu. Sanjay school sings that in Bagheshree which seems like a much nicer fit.

Listened to the first two songs today. Good performance but something was missing for me.
I didn't get anything Sowmyaish in her singing. Especially in the Jutamu neraval swarams. Would not have guessed that she is Sowmya's student unless you mentioned here.

The "mandhra sthayee munagal" didn't give it away :D ?

But seriously, I thought that the precise unadorned enunciation of the the lyrics (2:38 to 2:40) and the presentational flair for the special sangatis (1:38 to 1:40) were very reminiscent of her Guru.

The playful swaraprasthara (showcased in the main) and stutter step sangatis during neraval/swaras are also confirmatory indicators.

Also check out how she pronounces Bhakthi, Bhayam etc. especially in tamil compositions (Aspirating consonants discussed threadbare else where).

No expectation on the audience for a performer based on the paramparai/guru etc. Like listening to Pramodh Gokhale without knowing he is Vijay Siva's sishya with a blank canvas mind vs listening with that knowledge and having set some expectation.

Nice. Thought you were hinting that "lineage" was (could be) a double edged sword.

That rocking swaraprasthara in Tisra nadai with an oh so smooth transition back at the end was wonderful :)
