Su(per)nil Gargyan!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nATlNAcflCY
M Chandrasekharan, Mannargudi Easwaran, Guruprasad are the pakkavadhyams
Began with a Behag varnam by TRS with lovely sangathis, followed by an Arutpa in Sarasangi tuned by P. S. Narayanaswamy.
An alapana in Poornashadjam in progress.
One of your future Kalanidhis is singing. Great vidwat, no shortage of imagination, and completely Sattvic fare.
Listen now, listen well, listen wholly.

Crackling yet sowkhyam-drenched swarams for Lavanya Rama making intelligent use of Ni-Ni.
Poorvi Kalyani in progress.
One is unable to hear the voice in the lower octaves (beneath mandhra Ga)...

After an okayish violin reply by Chandru, we move to a Sattileni Guruguha peppered with powerful, well executed brigas (Sudha Ragunathan, take note)!

Re: Su(per)nil Gargyan!
Very emotive neraval at Koti Manmadha, but there was quite a bit of discomfort with the talam in the duritha kala neraval. Does that detract from the quality of the neraval? Probably in a very minor fashion.
Chowka kala swarams bring Poorvi Kalyani to a new plane... a better plane? Definitely.
Duritha Kalam? Can do with far more work.

Atana soothes the ears... as does a rare Sri Vaidyanatham Bhajami
With that, I sign off. My poor body is wracked by laryngitis, and the She-Boar looms over me...

Re: Su(per)nil Gargyan!
Good to hear positive things about an upcoming artiste. Glad the parenthesis helps. Heaven forbid that an emerging vidvAn like Sunil is called Super nil, given that rasikAs can be quite harsh, no matter how high the quality of music is. The reference to a senior artiste here would embarrass the emerging artiste as well, it seems...

Thanks enjoying the kaRpUram nArumO! - now concluding with mangalam. Will fill today's commute!
By the way don't miss his OVK fare recently. Great justice done to the composer - structure and flow!

What's a ' sattvic fare ' ? Based on that , what would rajasic and tamasic fares look like ? Lol , just curious , intersting terminology , thought provoking .melam72 wrote: ↑07 Nov 2017, 18:18 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nATlNAcflCY

By the way , is he a student of TNS ? I see a lot of TNS influence in him . If not , probably he's his admirer .

Re: Su(per)nil Gargyan!
Well, I attended the concert and it was quite good.
It was a wonderful sight to see the young singer flanked by the two legendary vidwans and equally interesting to see how they treated him affectionately and helped him to bring out the best. The lad too made use of the finest opportunity ever to invest his faculties in a humble way of acknowledging their supreme support.
A bit of fine tuning seemed needed at certain points in the aalaapna of Purnashadja and brigas in Purvikalyani.
Adherence to Paathaantaram and kaalapramaanam was admirable.
Though Sunil is essentially a product of the PSN school, he is obviously fascinated by TNS and that shows up all along. But that is quite a challenge if he intends to be loyal to both streams!

Re: Su(per)nil Gargyan!
kAmbodhi Alapana - even if it did not suffer identity issues ( like in the just posted Vignesh concert) - was still not effective. I think kAmbodhi is just too early for these youngsters! They need to suffer through life a bit - I guess!
