Nice words for the Pallavi line, I thought. Then of course, MKT's singing it in Sivakavi came to mind. Yes, why not? Murugan can be praised that way too, I thought. His singing the original song after that is a bit puzzling though, because the song is all about a young woman's beauty! the word is bimbamO? (is the face the very reflection of a full moon?).

Vadaname Chandra bimbamo - Amrutha Venkatesh sings this song so well
Isn't this a composition of Papanasam Sivan? - he was working as a music director at that time for movies wasn't he?

Yes, Papanasam Sivan.
From Sivakavi, Tamil Movie of 1943.

" The soundtrack of the film consisted of 29 songs were composed by the music director Papanasam Sivan who also penned the lyrics for all songs while G. Ramanthan took care of orchestration.

Sivan originally penned the song Vadaname Chandra Bhimbamo as Mugam Adhu Chandra Bimbamo. When M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar pointed out to Sivan how "Mugam Adhu" sounded like "Muhammad", Sivan changed it to 'Vadaname' ! "

Nice quip of information- very interesting
Especially that MKT gave such a nice suggestion to PS and he didn't think about his ego and changed it

Which also explains why extraordinary talents like them did not operate on the base of their egos when it came to making their art even better. MKT was a star by then. Yet, he himself being very sensitive to the way words sounded, made that observation. MKT was humility personified. It was an astute remark. However beautiful the composition is, the way it might sound is vital--let alone how they are enunciated by the singer.
Lovely composition, singer none other than Bharath Ratna MS Amma. The memorable vaNDADum sOlai song. Someone remarked: adenna, 'guNDAntaDiyE'-nnu kEkkaRadE (it sounds)? as it emanated from a teashop in a noisy street. For the Younger rasikAs, those who do not speak tamizh, it referred to a fat stick! The perfect one singing it and uLLam ' koNDAn sakiyE' is a romantic line too!

Upcoming vidvAns and vidUshis,
One concert, about ten pieces to sing. To understand the words and their purpose, and then to emote them, makes it all worthwhile for you and for the listeners :)
