(1:30 hr concert)

Another very nice concert of Sudharani. she started the concert with a padyam sung in mAyAmALavagauLa by tyAgarAja on puraNdaradAsa. I think she said that it is from prahlAda bhakti viajayam.
She announced about the kriti before she sang. She started with 'jaya jaya jaya jAnakIkANta' in nATa with very good kalpana swaram at the end. then followed 'sakala graha bala nIne' in aTHANA. kharaharapriya AlApana was very good for about 7 mins. the violin response later was crisp, short and sweet. the kriti 'bhArati dEviya nene' followed. she did nereval at 'kinkiNi kiNi pAda paNkaja nUpura' followed by kalpana swaram. I could not find the text of this kriti she rendered this kriti very well. I enjoyed the kharaharapriya AlApana and swaram very much, the second time in 5 days.
next was 'yArE raNgana' in hiNdOLa followed by brief AlApana of kalyANi, the violin accompaniment was very good and his reply was short and nice. the kriti 'kELanO hari tALanO', very nicely rendered. nereval was taken up at 'dRDha bhaktaranu kUDi hari kIrtaneya pADi'.
kalpana swaram was very nice followed by tani avartanam which was very good. next was 'bArO kRshNayya'. the last three kritis reminded of MLV who popularized many purandaradasa kritis. penultimate kriti was 'taMbUri mITidava' in sindubhairavi.

audience was about 100 although there were chairs arranged for 200. prasadam was served at the end of the concert to all those who attended.
there is a very small kannada speaking population in the city. the kaveri kannada sangha started conducting the purandaradasa aradhana celebrations since 2003. Each year they felicitate an eminent musician.

sorry for the late review. i was busy for last two days.

Divakar,
Thanks for the reviews...Keep em coming, and don't worry about timeliness...
A request (something we bug all reviewers about!): would it be possible for you to check if the concert was recorded?

thanks DRS for the padyam.
rshankar, i dont think anyone in the audience recorded the concert. however, i do think that the concert may have been recorded by someone for her. i shall try to check next time.
on that day, after the concert, i talked briefly with her. i told her about this discussion forum (rasikas.org) and that few current musicians are members. she said that she is aware of the site.
