Finally happened!! TMK begins concert with Mangalam.

Anyone can provide further details?

I remember reading somewhere that a famous Western classical piece was by accident played out backwards from a recording and sounded absolutely novel and fantastic. This kind of backward music too should become a new form of Carnatic music. Will share a sample with malice towards none

I'm sure you know what music played in reverse sounds like: just weird.

I read somewhere recently, that the composer of some rock music happened to listen to a practice tape backwards. Never mind the special-effects effect, he thought "Wait a minute! The melody works better like that!" So he rewrote it, back to front, and was pleased with the result.

As a song, rather than a bookend, (the usual) Mangalam deserves better than to be accompaniment to people rushing out of the door. Although it would be mentally confusing, I'd be happy to hear it at some other point in the concert.

TMK's music can be tranquil, vilamba kAla and pleasing. It's the order of the song list with AlApana, neraval and swarAs also thrown in at random which perplexes us. Just wondering: as a child, did he want tayir sAdam before he ate sAmbAr or rasam rice? Forget it. That's a simplistic way to look upon it...

Actually there is no other way to do justice to pavamaana except to sing it at the beginning! , unless you are an MDR with 10 or less people in the audience!

And a song with unsung passages is a special attraction! Do they carry some unheard of messages?

Don't be surprised if he has actually questioned this too and done something about it, or abandoned the South Indian meal format entirely.

He's the most natural left leaning person by temperament I have seen. This characteristic pretty much extends to every facet about him. His iDa nadi is probably very strong.

The tragedy for me is I don't know if you're joking or he really sang that. The only give away is Madhyamavati. I think he would sing it in Ananda Bhairavi.
