ORIGINS OF CARNATIC MUSIC IN KERALA BEFORE SWATHI THIRUNAALL

Post by RSR »

Can I have some articles and information on the origins of Carnatic Music in Kerala, before Swathi ThiruNaaL?
There must be many manuscripts in the libraries in Trivandram and Thrissur area.
We learn that Govinda Marar was a contemporary of Thyagaraja Swami. Who were the composers before him?

viewtopic.php?p=239072 - thread had this link:

Did Mullamoodu bhagavathars go back before Maharaja's times? Other art forms like Kathakali that have pre-existed, have compositions in them.

On Kathakali there is a borrowable book if you login: https://archive.org/details/kathakalidancedr0000zarr

Anyways , the sUma sAyaka vaRNam, whether it is an adopted tune from SrI Vadivelu's similar varNam ( as claimed in a thread in this forum), that beats the kApi attempts by all of the trinity. Even if it is a carnaticized version of Hindustan - KApi!

This important rAgA has not been brought out well by any of them!
