Javali Hunnimeya Belakinalli lyrics and meaning

Post by ruthmaria »

Hi!

I am looking for the lyrics and meaning for javali Hunnimeya Belakinalli in raga chandrajyothi, khandachapu tala. I think it is composed by Anoor Anantha Krishna Sharma.

The language might be Kannada but I am not fully sure.

I hope anyone knows it and can help! Let me know if you wish to hear the song, I have the audio.

Thanks in advance,

Ruth Maria

Lakshman-ji,

The link you have provided above is not the song that Ruth Maria is looking for.
The first line is almost same but not quite the same (belakalli vs. belakinalli) - both mean the same.

A short clip of the song ruthmaria is looking for is here:
https://soundcloud.com/user-587620096/0 ... belakinali

Ruth Maria,
Yes, the language is kannada.
Please send me the audio - I will try to provide the lyrics and meaning (if the audio is clear!)

Lakshman-ji,
Thank you for the audio recording!

I am struggling to capture all the words - the accompanying music seems to drown the words.
I will keep trying!

@Sreeni Rajarao
In the YouTube 'Settings', you may try the 'Playback Speed' at 0.75. This should help to hear the words clearly.

PB,
Thank you for that tip, but the audio in discussion is not on YouTube.

Lakshman-ji has emailed me the lyrics this morning.

I noticed that I need to make some minor corrections in that.

I will do that and post it here later today.

I will provide word to word meaning as well.

Sreeni-ji, thank you so much for your help! Both general and word to word meaning are most appreciated.

Thanks to you, too, Lakshman-ji! I expect you sent Sreeni the audio file from the Ananya collection?

From what I hear listening to the audio file, I think I have it mostly correct here:

huNNimeya beLakinali
rAgA: candrajyOti
k/cApu tALA

P: huNNimeya beLakinali kendAvareya mogada
kiru nageya mODiyanu nAnentu baNNisali?

C1: mEle kangaLa seLetakIDAde madanikeye
madhura adharada saviya nIDeya kannikeye?

C2: tumbu harayada heNNe madananOvina kaNNe
enna kaiya piDiyE nI bAre prasanne

huNNimeya beLakinali kendAvareya mogada
kiru nageya mODiyanu nAnentu baNNisali, kELi, kELi

- I am not 100% sure about the word "madananOvina"
- It might be correct.
- I have sent the audio file to our experts Smt. Savitri and Sri. Sachi, and requested them to validate what I have written
(or make corrections)
- I will get to the translation exercise once we are 100% sure about the lyrics!

Sreeni,
Howdee!
I hear the same as you except I hear haNNe instead of kaNNe.

What a passionate appeal to the woman from a man totally captivated by the maiden's charms, bathed as she is in moonlight!

In an aside, I must confess that many raaga names don't seem to correspond to the rasa they invoke in me. Just this morning I was listening to Malaya Maaruta on the radio and wondered how the mood that the raaga invokes in me seems to be a far cry from the cool, fragrant breeze of the silent valley I have experienced.

Is it just me?

Here, Chandrajyoti raaga has been chosen by Anoor Shivu because the beginning words refer to the light of the full moon. But Chandrajyoti is for me a raaga like the navapashanam Prasada, poignant and pungent to be tolerated for its medicinal value, not a passionate love-laden raaga like Khamach or Bihag or Yaman.

Not to hijack the very worthwhile mission that Ruthmaria and you have embarked on, perhaps to get some dancers to emote the situation. All the best for your efforts sir!

C2: tumbu harayada heNNe *madananOvina* kaNNe

I feel it can be *madananu Ovina*kanne.

*Ovu*means::protect,nurture,safeguard,shelter,preserve.

i hear it as *heNNE*

P: huNNimeya beLakinali kendAvareya mogada
kiru nageya mODiyanu nAnentu baNNisali?

C1: mEle kangaLa seLetakIDAde madanikeye
madhura adharada saviya nIDeya kannikeye?

Thank you Sachi avare and Savitri avare!

I have been wondering if this could be madananOvina heNNe, to mean "lady pining for Madana"

What do you both think?

Sreeni ji, have you had the chance to think about the translation yet? Sorry I haven't been very active in this thread myself, I have a 1-week-old newborn here..

Ruthmaria,
Congratulations on the arrival of the little one!

Here it is finally, my attempt at providing the meaning for this song!

P: huNNimeya beLakinali kendAvareya mogada
kiru nageya mODiyanu nAnentu baNNisali?

C1: mEle kangaLa seLetakIDAde madanikeye
madhura adharada saviya nIDeya kannikeye?

C2: tumbu harayada heNNe madananOvina haNNe
enna kaiya piDiyE nI bAre prasanne

Meaning:
huNNimeya beLakinali means "In the brightness of the full moon night"
(huNNime is full moon day/night, beLaku is light, brightness)

kendAvareya mogada means "with a face of the red lotus"
(kendAvare is red lotus, moga is face)

kiru nageya mODiyanu means "the magic/spell/charm/enchantment/fascination of the faint (tiny?) smile"
(kiru means little, brief, faint)
(nageya means smile's)
(mODiyanu means spell/charm)

nAnentu baNNisali means "how do I describe?"
(nAnentu means how do I?)
(baNNIsali? means describe?)

mEle kangaLa seLetakIDAde madanikeye means "I fell for the attractiveness of your upward facing eyes or glance, oh attractive lady"
(mEle means above)
(kangaLa means of the eyes)
(seLeta means attraction)
(IDade means I surrendered)
(madanikeye means oh damsel, we can say that madanike is an attractive lady)

madhura adharada saviya nIDeya kannikeye? means "won't you give me the sweetness of your soft/delicate lips, oh maiden?"

(madhura means soft/delicate)
(adhura means lips)
(saviya means sweetness)
(nIdeya means won't you give/offer?)
(kannike means maiden)

tumbu harayada heNNe madananOvina haNNe means "ripe youthful lady, the fruit of my pangs of romantic love"
(tumbu means full; ripe is a better word in this context)
(haraya means youth)
(heNNe means lady)
(madananOvina haNNE means the fruit of my pangs of romantic love)
(haNNe means fruit)

enna kaiya piDiyE nI bAre prasanne means "come hold my hands, you pleasant one"
(enna means)
(kaiya means hand or hands)
(piDiyE means hold)
(nI means you)
(bAre means come)
(prasanne means pleasant one!)
