Ustad Rashid Khan passed away on Tuesday 9-1-24 in Kolkata, aged 55. He was suffering from prostate cancer.
As one of the finest exponents of HM in contemporary times, he will be sorely missed. He learnt CM as well, so many of his "bol-alaaps" had a distinct Carnatic flavour -- both in terms of laya patterns and melodic usage. His exposition of the raga Lalit is a must-hear, was his first commercial recording at the age of 19 !

What a musician! It's sad that he left us at such a very young age. A dozen years or so ago, I had the good fortune of listening to him live. What stage presence! What delightful, heart-warming music! We shall miss him. May he find peace in heaven...
