RShankar's transltion is so evocative and beautiful.

Just a small correction. "arukuDaiyAi" means "as the umbrella". The Tamaala tree becomes Krishna's royal umbrella.

Rajani, you're perfectly right.
He had a unique way of translating.
Pity, he is not participating, of late.
BTW,you too are no less talented in this field.
Regards.
Savitri.

mAlirandu Siru malarugaL padavinaiyAi - the first and last word here I do not understand the meaning.

I think the last word must be padavaNaiyAi - which means "as a footrest or cushion for his feet"

mAlirandu does not make sense in this context. It MAY be manilattu or maramiRanda

manilattu Siru malarugaL padavaNaiyAi
meaning : the small flowers (strewn) on the ground, are his footrest or cushion for his feet.

maramiRanda Siru malarugaL padavaNaiyAi
meaning : the small flowers shed from trees, are his footrest or cushion for his feet.

These are my guesses. If you find an authentic source of the text, please post it.
