want to ask if anyone can point out where I can find more information on types of taanam singing - with or without percussion is one aspect but there are other types of taanam like mayura, manduka, ashwa, simha etc - want to know about these aspects in more detail
Also any books published on taanam singing is available ? Please provide information, thanks

Sri TNS talks about the methods in this Lec Dem. https://youtu.be/Ivi7lemIMrw?t=1635. Somewhere he says don't ask me if this is how it is being sung, but this is the truth about taanam. So he is being a pedagogical. He attributes singing with taaLam to something that was developed in Thiruvanathapuram.

Interesting one and enjoyed the lec dem taanam part - but it still does not answer my questions - probably someone who has done thesis or research study on old forms of taanam exhaustively only can answer
