@musicacademyma announces its dance awardees for 2026

Nritya Kala Acharya - A Janardhanan
Dance Musician Award - S Rajeswari and TK Padmanabhan

Congratulations to a truly birlliant Vainika Vidushi Dr Jayanthi Kumaresh . I was mentally thinking she will get it either this year or next year . Also to other awardees , they all deserve the award (Sugandha Kalamegham (Lovely vidushi from mainly DKJ School)/Trichur Narendran (he is been our forumite , sishya from Palakkad Raghu) , Injikudi (Our late Nageswaran would be super elated with Injikudi subramanian - nadaswaram) and TKVR (brilliant violinist from Trichy who plays usually in chennai during dec season ) and Dr Bala). Personally not heard Dr Bala at all, he is from Brinda Muktha school , few folks who attended his cleveland concerts have been super impressed with him . Hoping to hear Dr Bala soon

------
Jayanthi represents the sixth generation of a family of musicians.[12] She began formal study at age three with her mother, Lalgudi Rajalakshmi.[13][14] At thirteen she entered the Gurukul of her aunt, Vidushi Padmavathy Ananthagopalan, remaining there for twenty-two years,[14] and later studied with S. Balachander.[1]

She received further guidance from her maternal uncle, violinist Lalgudi Jayaraman, and from T. Brinda, T. R. Subramaniam, and Thanjavur Shankara Iyer.[2]

Above from Wiki, kudos and pranams to all the great gurus of Jayanthi Kumaresh

Congratulations to all the awardees. A good list this year, indeed!

Dr.Jayanthi Kumaresh, a highly endowed artiste with a depth of knowledge which in her art blossoms as rich emotive expression--is a fine choice for the SK award. How well nourished she is from the family's rich wells of music! Married to an excellent artiste too.

Sangeetha kala Acharya awards go to two of the worthy ones.

As for Dr. Balasubrahmanyan, what a topnotch traditional line again--that of the Wesleyan family! Dr.S.Ramanathan, Dhanammal's vamsAvaLi, John Higgins Bhagavathar and others! Yes, professor and performer, he surely deserves the award.

Was expecting to see Malladi Brothers, or Dr M Narmadha (violinist). Both are long overdue for recognition.

Yes, indeed.
As we all know only too well, every year this happens. The award is just for one per year--unless they happen to be a duo. This means many deserving artistes get to be on the waiting list :(

Hope Dr. Narmada and the brothers are recognized in the coming years :)

After SrI & SrImati Sivanandam couple, this is the next for vINA after long time. The jIvan and source of all Indian rAgA music!

OK, how many times vINa artistes are reviewed- even in this forum? Or even the SK designate?

Now don't ask me if I enjoy or ever enjoyed vINA. I did when I heard a TNS recording with Madrimangalam at Arkay - doing his odukkams

LayammA adiccu vAsiccha ellam kETkalam!

Ramana Balachandran is making waves & next in line DR. RSJ mAmi's grand daughter is promising.

My paternal aunt knows about 100 thyaagaraaja kruthis. But she is not blessed with a good voice to sing. I dont know how my grandfather managed to get a veeNaa teacher in a small town in salem district to teach her. She is very good veeNaa player.
Despite her age ,around 70, she never fails to play the instrument for atleast 30 minutes everyday. Occasionally, she gets immersed in the kruthi and partially sings too . I have seen tears in her eyes in such moments.
I am sure that she cares little for technique but brims with bhakthi due to the saahithyam and the music.
Carnatic music definitely is based on devotional saahithyam with chaste music.
.
Are we not belittling The Trinity by negating saahithyam and devotional spirit?

Sangeetha Kala Acharya awards have been given to both very well deserving senior musicians.
Congrats to all awardees!
Sometimes I think Sangeetha Kala Acharya is a bigger award (or should be considered as such) than Sangita Kalanidhi

IMHO Smt Pantula Rama deserves SK more than Malladis - Malladi Bros never sing due sangatis or sing sangatis properly and they have not brought out any good students. Smt Pantula Rama has brought out several good students - same with Sri MSN Murthy also.

Absolutely! I am a big fan of hers--in the sense, while not being carried away, I am soothed by the bhAva and knowledge she has of music. What a mate she has in his enhancing her gift! As you say, her nurturing of her students is truly touching.

Yes, for her music, for her teaching and for the grace she possesses--not for a moment forgetting her supportive and highly endowed spouse, she needs to be honored!

Even one or two live concerts a year of hers nourishes me.
