tani
kurai onRum illai
english notes
bhagyAda lakshmi bArammA

The AlApanais of shanmukhapriyA and mOhanam were nice. svarams were all good as well. a nicely balanced list as well. The short sketch of bangALa was nice and it was quite a tricky thing to accomplish well. a young violinst with promising talent for the future. The accompanists were good as well.

I know you to be a regular contributor in this site. Any reason why you should use the expression "Fiddle" rather than the more acceptable word "Violin" ? Just curious....

No offense to anyone, this is just an observation, that is all! :)

I have noticed that people from Karnataka use the word "fiddle" for violin. Also, if a person (not necessarily from Karnataka) is born before 1947, they tend to use the word "fiddle" for violin.

Yes, the britsh raj influence made us use the word fiddle for the imported instrument because fiddle came from the english language, as the article says. piddle is how you would read it in tamizh in the ads! The same thing applied to kannada (piTilu).

Bharath is not from karnataka and he definitely does not qualify to be a senior :)

I like to say fiddle.
One has to fiddle with the fiddle to get to the tune.
What's an instrument called if you dabble with?

dabiddle=trying to say 'the fiddle' with a bad cold
dabbilin=when you are learning to play the violin
dabbalute=you also aspire to become a member of a philharmonic society and so dabble in playing a lute...
