We might have heard the expansive Swarajati of Shyama Sastri in Bhairavi as sung by the Pitamaha, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, who more or less patented the same.

So it was a bit surprising when I heard the same piece sung by Chembai, because Chembai was not known to have rendered this often. It was a different experience altogether... it seemed to me to be a mix of Semmangudi and MDR's styles.

Hear it yourself at http://rapidshare.de/files/10635486/CVB ... rajati.mp3

Alternatively, it can be accessed by clicking the "Audio Folder" link at the top-left of this page, and entering the password "carnatic" when required.

Dear Friends,

I will be in Chennai for a day and a half (before I proceed on a detailed and long trip down south) on 10th and 11th of this month. Will it be possible to share a glass of beer or two with all those of you who are in Chennai - and ofcourse get to know you better. In case most of you might come out with a response that "I do not drink" - no problems at all - u can definitely clink my glass with yours (filled with coke or orange or lemon.......).

I would defnitely like to meet as many people as possible. Please suggest a suitable venue and time.

Thanks,

Param

Mahesh,

I have uploaded track-wise because rapid-share hangs up when I load a big file. Despite the drawback of a wait time, I believe that you would be able to complete the exercise within a day or two.

Tgrgod

Welcome! If you visit sangeethapriya.org, you will find a dedicated page for Chembai. The Administrator of this forum, Mr S Ramakrishnan has uploaded a concert and some other pieces. Please download them by right clicking. Second, this forum contains an audio folder, password for which is carnatic. You may get one more chance then to download the songs that have been discussed in detail by the forum members.

Hi, new-cmfan: Thanks for uploading it as a zip file.

Here is yet another concert from the same series. I have removed the songs that have been rendered earlier.

Your Download-Link: http://rapidshare.de/files/13450309/Che ... 2.zip.html

KaumAram and Mantra (Shyam),

I downloaded the Chembai_full_concert.zip file earlier today and found that it has some CRC errors. Fortunately, all the files were recovered successfully except 07 ParidAna miccitE. KaumAram, Can you kindly upload just that seperately in any form? Also, I have split all the files of the concert into two parts and have uploaded to rapidshare. Following are the links. (ParidAna miccitE in my zip files does not correspond to the size mentioned in the .txt file from KaumAram).

http://rapidshare.de/files/14116204/Che ... cert-I.zip
http://rapidshare.de/files/14116753/Che ... ert-II.zip

I am presently downloading the Mumbai concert and I shall upload it within an hour or two.

Thanks,
vrbadri.

KaumAram,
I have uploaded the other .zip file into the three following links. Again I had the CRC problem. Don't know if its just me. However, I have uploaded what I could unzip. It has all the files from 3 onwards to the end (1 and 2 were not zipped, I presume). As far as I noticed only the last file (Thillana senjuruTTi) is smaller than what was mentioned in your zip file. So, can you upload the last file along with songs 1 and 2 (that is, if you have them) when you can?

http://rapidshare.de/files/14123009/Che ... 9-66-A.zip
http://rapidshare.de/files/14122128/Che ... 9-66-B.zip
http://rapidshare.de/files/14124725/Che ... 9-66-C.zip

Thanks,
vrbadri.

Dear all,

Thought I will make a new beginning as Srkris works towards to the new site. Hence the prayer while commencing this.

I am sorry to have troubled all of you while posting the two concerts of Chembai through storeandserve. If any one of you require any individual songs to be posted, I will post it through rapidshare.

Trust all of you enjoyed listening to the concert.

Meena: Thanks for the information about the speaker.

What is the sAhityam for this lovely kalyANI piece? As far as I can make out, it is in malayalam, and doesn't it begin with 'chandana maNam'? And I assume that it is on krishNA because there is a reference to 'mEGA vaNNan'.
Thanks.
