Perhaps there is no better way to end the year ,than my experience of listening to no frills concert by Vijayashiva. I was late and I heard Shri vijayashiva beginning the krithi in varAli . The neraval in varAli had a right thrust and was interesting. The swaras were very good in varAli. A rare darbAr which was sung by Shri DKJ is perhaps still alive only because of vijayashiva .

A top class dhanyAsi followed . The swaras were outstanding after hearing a nice rAga AlApanai , perhaps at few places I could notice slight touches of tOdi there. The diction of his thamizh in dhanyAsi was perfect . His voice had the right sowkhyam to present a very elaborate shankarAbharanam . THe krithi was rendered very good and the neraval was just good . Shri vijayashiva followed up with a right paced swaras giving lot of oppurtunities for vittal to give great returns.

Sivan's parAmukham enayyA was presented very well . What followed after kharaharapriya was two brilliant no's . His slOkham was very emotively in all 3 rAgas , particularly liked the punnagavarAli. If his school is known to present Dikshitar's krithi to such prefection, this particular manirangu occupies the top in the stack. Vijayashiva gave an outstanding rendition of mAmava pattabhirAmA and to me this rendition was the highlight of the concert.manirangu had the right emotions, right pitch of voice and right diction , perhaps I have to wait for a yearly once occurence.

The nAdanAmakriya rendition of NT's krithi was excellent . Another nice slOkham ending in a somewhat folkish (may be it was dEsh??) rendition of vittalA bhajan was nice. The hamsAnandi thirruppugazh was just good . The last thillang was perhaps sung as this was a newyear's eve and was sung with a lot of emotive feeling.

Shri vittal rAmamurthy bowing was very good to excellent at some places I could not hear much. JV was very apt to bring in shiva's sowkhyam . EMS needs to play more .tani was just good. Overall an excellent concert.

I think he's in peak form this season. Though I attended only two, all his concerts have been excellent judging by the reviews. His no-frills approach is definitely engaging.

I attended one of his chamber concert in banglore for independence day in blore. Offcourse the kutcheri format is changed for various reason as the theme was about independence. But the concert overall was perfectly suddham. Like a home meal.... He is a great vidwan but wonder why he is so underrated ( and few commercial releases) despite his strong guru and DKP school background. May be his voice?
