Another great songlist and concert from Sanjay. What talam RTP was? He seem to have provided a mini concert in raga malika swaras - bowli to surati.

Yep, the lilting vibrant pallavi raga mAlikA portrayed timeless and myriad emotions of GovindA:
adbhutha, shringara, roudhra, bhayanaka, karuna, bibhatsya, veera, hasya, and shantha- to name a few.

I'm loving how varied Sanjay's fare is these days. Some of these concerts are so traditional, like the one with a Thodi main, and others are so offbeat! This ragamalika is really straight out of TNS's book...

kedharam,
So well said!
Lists are but lifeless shells when the performer takes you to such heights of sangItAnubhavam. Many rasikAs do know that lists don't say it all--especially when it comes to vidvAns like Sanjay. He has definitely not sung the same old songs, concert after concert. The few that he repeats (may it be in rAgA or kruti), attain a newness in his presentation, every time.
Nevertheless, lists are not to be scoffed at :) Without them, rasikAs have no means of imagining the impact of a concert. It is almost as if you went to a great feast, and besides describing it, brought us a sampling of a piece of some dessert--a clue to go by, in imagining the merit of the feast...

kedharam, thanks for the review.

Vetta veli is in nadanamakriya right? It is a composition of nadanamakriya Kudambai Siddar?

Engum Niraindhirukkum is in navaroz, I think.

Was "nee ninaindhal" in durbari kanada? Who is the composer of this piece please?

What is the point of discussing "lists"? I am with Sirsub on this one. I also read Sanjay's blog on this and I agree with him totally. I read on this discussion board itself someone saying that he liked TMK's songlist better than Sanjay's songlist. I don't remember who said that, but only a truly silly person would say something like that!

That is like saying that someone liked the Australia-Bangladesh scoreboard better than the Australia-India scoreboard! Ok, but what about the quality of the match itself?

This obsession with song lists is senseless. I think that a scoreboard discussion is for people who cannot understand, comment on, dissect and appreciate a cover-drive played on the up on a pitch that offers variable bounce and swing. Similarly, song list discussions are for people who can only do that -- discuss song lists! If they knew how to discuss nuances, they would!

I came across this in Ram's blog: there is a Sanjay Subrahmanyan series of concerts--which means those of his students, I guess--this month in Chennai. Rasikas member Sandeep, Prasanna Venkatraman, Swarana Rethas and Bharat Kumar are featured.
Sanjay sings an all Papanasam Sivan concert at Narada Gana Sabha next week--the first of the concerts in India after his US tour, I imagine...

Isn't BHarath Kumar Suguna Varadachari's son - or is that someone else? He sang quite well at the Musiri's place a couple of years back

Is this organized by Naada Inbam or by Sri Sanjay himself? Anyway, whoever has done it has done a great job selecting senior and experienced accompanying artistes for these young musicians. I am sure these concerts will be a treat for rasikas, and perhaps more importantly, a wonderful learning experience for Sandeep, Prasanna, Bharathkumar and Swarna Rethas. Looking forward to reports [can I say songlists :)] on these concerts.
