In Sydney we have done a Thyagaraja Ramayana also selecting parts of Thyagaraja kritis to narrate incidents from the Ramayanam. Some songs that come to mind include Jo Jo Rama (Rithigowla), Sri Rama Padama (Amritavahini), Sara Sara Samaraika (Kuntalavarali), Seetha kalyanam (Kurinji).

With all due respect to Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant, I have not seen a better rendering than J.Suryanarayana Murthy's dance visualisation performed by his best student Shruthipriya available on DVD in Drishya Bharatham. It's available on www.JayQ.orgrshankar wrote:Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant has done a full 'ekahArya' on tyAgarAja rAmAyaNam using tha bards compositions interspersed with some SlOkas. It is available on DVD. Some of the pancaratna kritis have also been danced to.

I have seen a wonderful production by Dhanajanan & Shanta ( of Kalakshetra) called "Tyagaraja Vaibhavam" which had many Tyagaraja kritis - (obviously
) - I don't remember the entire list - but there were Sriganapatini (SourashTra), nEnendu vetakudurA ( karnATaka bEhAg) and nidhi chAla sukhama (kalyANi) for sure..

My daughter, K. Vipanchi, under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Kanaka Sudhakar (disciple of Dhananjayan), has performed Bharatanatyam to the Pancharatna Kritis of Tyagaraja, in group, in Bhakti Pravah series of Chinmaya Mission, New Delhi in 2006. She has performed for 'Jagadananda Kaaraka' subsequently at various places, depicting whole Ramayana through it.

Thanks Ravi. Very nicely done. The thulasi scene was nicely set up, quite serene and it brought back memories of such daily activities in village agraharams. When the 'thualasi' song began, I got the feel for how the rest of the nATyam is structured. BTW, Visakha Hari's Thyagaraja Charithram upanyasam goes well with this program. It will provide the context for those who do not know the various stories depicted in the NATyam.
