Kalyani Varnam Adhi Thalam
Sivagamasundari jaganmohini
Vandharulvaymuruga Devamanohari
Srimathrubhootham Kannada
Jesinadhella Thodi
Thiruppugazh Charukesi
I have been listening to carnatic music for the past 60years and a great fan of GNB MLV Alathoor Rajarathnam pillai and now I listen to TVS and TNS and other junior artists.
The recital of Subha ganesan, was enjoyable and made the evening pleasant. She has a good base voice with depth suitable very much for singing traditional carnatic music. Her voice obeys her musical mind,
It was an outstanding concert. The Devamanohari alapana was real class and was full of Manodharma. (reminded of Mlv amma in many places)
The violinist Kandadevi Vijayragavan was not in good form and presented Devamanohari Raga which had only phrases of sudhasaveri durbar and arabhi
Subha Presented Kalpanaswarams in vandharulvaay muruga in a great manner with lots of imagination. Its not very easy to sing alapana and swaram for a raga like devamanohari,
Srimathrubhutham was a real treat to rasikas which was sung in a very slow leisurely manner, the patandhra was excellent.
The highlight of the day was the alapana of Thodi, she has a very good imagination especially while delineating alapanas and has good grip and control in her voice, Thodi was sung nearly for 15mnts, shubha developed the alapana step by step with prachina sangathis, her manodharnma was awesome but to my disappointment the krithi followed was jesinadhellamarachithivo, after a very detailed alapana a krithi like gadhanu variki"

The upcoming artists should definitely sing ragas familiar to the listeners, The concert can be made interesting and lively only if ragas known to the public are sung in concerts, i dont know how many people are familiar with ragas like devamanohari?? As somebody has said the violinist himself was not comfortable with that less known raga, why should an artist venture such a raga for detailed alapana

I am sorry ragangaragam i wish to make you clear that devamanohari is not at all a less known ragam , I have heard GNB MLV Ramanad krishnan sing detailed alapanas , GNB and MLV has sung RTp's in Devamanohari. Its a very common raga We have few thyagaraja krithis like kannathandrinapai and Evvarikai. The famous tamil song Yaarukkuthaan theriyum' is Devamanohari,

Raganga ragam what do u wish to convey??? you yourself have certain confusions it seems, in your first reply you have said that devamanohari is not familiar to violinist and public and in your second reply you have written that it is old and many composers have composed in it?? what are you trying to convey, make yourself clear before posting a reply.
