We all know how turmeric is a useful cure for sore throat.

It seems it can also prevent dementia:

Now where did I keep that turmeric bottle? Can't remember... ;)

Turmeric is a good antiseptic. Hence it might react with the bacteria causing inflammaion in the throat!

It has been well known that for the past few years, multi-national pharmas are working hard to isolate the chemicals in turmeric that provide the curing/healing/anti-septic properties of turmeric so they can mass produce the heck out of it. I do not know if they are successful yet.

There is a huge effort to prevent them from patenting things in this & other areas like Neem in India. Monsanto bribed lots of agencies & persons & managed to patent corn seeds which farmers were forced to buy resulting in enormous expenses + poor results+ damage to migrating birds etc.......I spend lot of time in India whenever I go to Chennai- apart from Carnatic music+ the stalwarts who are mostly in their eighties or over & SUCH EXPERTS in Sanskrit, Philosophy as well as the finer aspects of our culture- & its very discouraging in this & other fronts; For example the MOST dangerous Carsigenon Dump is just two miles from the fancy ADYAR & has been continuously burning for over 15 years that I know of....In order not to LOSE my mind I MEET MANY YOUNG PERSONS who I am convinced are my ONLY HOPE. I am convinced that Darwin's Evolution theory has resulted in SUCH improvement in the skills of the current YOUNG generation....vkv

I know, I know. But I like it there! Especially if I can cook with some nice CM in the background.

For some no creativity is allowed in cooking as the stove may explode; so are some artists in singing, no change allowed from customary and used to singing.

since we seem to be discussing culinary brainwaves for almost five pages, :( yeah, hate to cook....havent bothered to learn...heres something my mother tells me to do when i catch a nasty cold....but even the idea would sound obnoxious, so guys, brace urselves::::

well, she tells me to take a manjal kaai...the long stick like manjal that these mami's give in the vetthala paaku...n hold it over the gas stove directly, till the damn thing burns (itself and a bit of my fingers) n then inhale that horrible grotesque smell...nauseus, i know....
u have to do it with FULL FORCE, it'll burn ur throat right down n u'll cough all over the place, but sadly, ironically, it helps....
:) :( :P

Talking about food and singing...
what dishes go with which ragas?
E.g. Spicy vattha kozhambu >> Todi or Atana
