Back to reality, I thought the SK announcement was due today. It seems to me that the SK announcement has been deferred as all parties involved are currently standing in a beeline to watch Kabali and only God knows when they shall take darshan of the thalaivar. It has also been rumoured that the next election shall promise free tickets to whichever Rajnikanth movie is due to release that year.

Gosh... maybe they are not yet unanimous!.

I was talking to a fellow rasika yesterday and mentioned the cool nature of this thread this year: he said maybe the heat will raise after the announcement!

Somehow, though, unless it should happen to one particular person who gets rasikas.org in a tizzy just by eating breakfast, I am still thinking that people, or at least rasikas.org people, don't care about this award like they used to.

In a couple of days, it seems, I will know if I am right.

Long ago, R K Narayan, the famous writer and an ardent rasika, wrote about how true blue Carnatic rasikas talk endlessly about their musical preferences and artistes and this bit is as enjoyable for them as (perhaps even more than) actual musical listening.

This rasikas.org and the "religious" participation by the likes of me and you proves that point beyond doubt.

Whoever gets the SK in 2016, I am sure there will be a lot of opinions and responses thrown about here. It is a part of the territory called CM, MA and SK.

Sure! It is just that SK itself seems to have lost some of its shine on the past couple of years. We will see, next week: passions aroused, or move along, nothing to see. I'm almost more interested in that question than I am in who gets it.

@NickH, Don't worry, it can never get as bad as that decade wherein campaigns reached suicide pitch. At which point one should have raised the question if it was worth more than all the drama that it caused ... but still year after year and here we are as ever, our love for drama keeping us hungry.

Now with the tiger having faded into history, we can't even expect the dramatics.

Yes, SrinathK, nothing new about the past few years and this year. It's the same old story. Drama played by either the rasikAs or the musicians themselves, go back even further, as you say

We rasikAs seem to consider it as such anyhow, contrary to what we say (that it's no big deal). Why? Because if someone other than one of our favorites win, we seem to think of the award as a joke

The annual musical holi of smearing colors is to begin in a matter of hours, days?

As for the tiger, we still miss him. We always will. We still feel he should come back. He did act up at times (and how!). Still, he was part of Rasikas.org in a such a way that it's difficult to fill the void. Harimau without his rancor is special, and I'm not the only one to think that way....

Looks like these tigers have gone the way of the thylacine (a now extinct, carnivorous marsupial that evolved in Australia, complete with stripes, fangs and all - aka Tasmanian tiger)....

When I lived in Mandavelli 3rd Norton Lane in 1980's, her cousin and my colleague used to visit her at her home a couple of streets away. He used to tell me how she was ALWAYS busy teaching.
I remember her early days as an accompanist to Dr MLV, she used to lend a melodious sprightliness to the concert throughout. She had a strong bowing technique and minimal physical movement, her violin always looked too large for her.
I remember her accompaniment to Ravikiran along with TVG in 1982 in Ramaseva Mandali Fort High School. Ravikiran's Saranga, Begada, Todi RTP, and her brilliant returns, stay etched.
She has produced many worthy disciples.
Her violin nowadays is lightly coloured, has an elctronic pick-up, and she continues to perform in many formats....

WOULD THIS BE THE FIRST TIME THAT A VIOLINIST sANGITA KALANIDHI (MC) and his disciple Sangita Kalanidhi violinist (AKK) are happily with us and active!?

Yes, Ratan Abhinav, this is the name I had heard too, some weeks ago. In fact in the Kalavanta 2016 Awards Ceremony where the Vidushi distributed the awards, Mr Krishnaprasad announced that they all (several organisations of Bangalore) wished that she should be decorated with the Sangita Kalandhi in 2016 by MA! When I conveyed the news just now to Sri KP, he said, " I told you so!"

Looking at the number of Instrumentalists in line for the title,Giving two SK awards each year-one for Vocal and the other one for Instrumentalist will be a better approach to cover deserved ones to get the award.If MC got SK in 2005,it is 11 years to recognize another violinist for SK.

Great news. Quite a deserving candidate. I was fortunate to listen to her short concert, on the concluding day of Kalavanta 2016 at Malleswaram, an event held under the joint auspices of ten leading music sabhas in Bangalore (Karnataka Fine Arts Council).

Amazing concert it was. Probably it is on YouTube.

Congratulations to A. Kanyakumari, a well deserved awardee. I have followed her rise right from the first time I heard her accompany MLV in Philapelphia in 1980, when Sudha also provided vocal support to MLV. I have been suggesting her for instrumental and OST for vocal awards for more than two years now. I am pleased to note that at least one has materialized. Perhaps OST will be the next.
