Had been to R K Srikantan at Swamy's hall yesterday. wonderful concert full of rare kritis. Met Vijay,Jayaram, Ramraj and Kulkarni. Waiting for Vijay's review
Sangeetha Sivakumar I note...would love to go but there is a lec dem at 8.30 and the rasikas meet after that...have earmakred her concert at Kalarasana though...
After the usual loitering around in the afternoon, I will head for TNS
Tomorrow morning I am invited to Mayavaram G. Somasundaram's 80th birthday ceremony, so I have to make one of my unusual early starts. I don't think there will be any music there, but I'm sure there will be a musician or two.
If I can wake up early enough (don't drop your jaw - hols are on) - Jayanty Kumaresh at 10. Options open after that aournd Mylapopre area and Sangeetha Sivakuamr at 6.15...
I've been diligent enough...will take it easy tomorrow..may hang around Academy for a while an maybe Malladis at YGP. Will probably call it a day early
There were many people at Somu-sir's function that I felt I ought to know. I'm sure many a musician of his, and younger, generations were there.
The Nadaswaram and Thavil was great.
We were unable to stay long, due to other commitments. Breakfast was great; we could not stay for lunch.
Even though he may not be to the fore so much these days, I've seen Somu-sir's mind at work only a year or three ago, composing tiermanums, mohara, korvai for that 128-beat talam (err.... Simhanandan...) and I am very much aware of my teacher's respect for his knowledge. A giant of calculation!
Any body attended "SADAS" of MA.. !!! Some awards were given.
THE AWARD GOES TO...........
9.15 Slot- Best performer- Suguna Purushottaman

Didnt attend but I saw a few pics at carnatica.net. Heard that the ceremony itself was quite a drag.
Awards... well, there are so many, it's almost as if they have one for every musician that performed in the season! Sanjay & team got it for best concert (senior), TMK & Vijay shared for best senior artiste, Sowmya got three awards for raga alapana, Best pallavi award went to BMK Jr... etc etc
Kamavardhini I felt the same when I attended last year! In many cases similar sounding awards are handed out to various artistes leaving the average rasika quite confused...

Can you believe that this is a first time for me?
I'm sure you can't! But I truly have never made it to his concert before...
nick, if you are talking of this season alone, then you are not the only person around. i couldn't attend even one concert of many of the top class musicians. however, if its over a long period of time, then you should listen more.
Planning to be there for the rapid fire turns of Aditi Mangaldas at Academy. I witnessed a thrilling performance by her group 3 years back. Hoping for a repeat
