This is sad news, but these things happen, and I hope we can have the same pleasures on a different date.

Best wishes to all the poor sufferers, mau they be bright and well soon.

Best wishes to 'vidyArthI' to get better ASAP!

Nick
I am not keen to pursue the Sunday program .
I am sure I will be directing this dirty virus there too.
That is the way my Luck has run out.
So let us meet up for the July 1st Shahid Parvez-GJR duet at Krishna Gana Sabha , meet GJR after the concert and fix the program for the visit then.
I have half a mind to drown my sorrows today evening in the M Chandru-Eswaran recital.

Unfortunate that these concerts got cancelled on the last minute. There seem to be quite a few other concerts in Chennai tonight in any case (see http://ramsabode.wordpress.com/concerts-in-chennai/). In Sydney we have a temple concert by Carnatica Bros tonight.

The concert starts at 6pm. We can meet at 5pm if its ok with everyone. Kulkarni ji is at work, so not sure if he will be able to come early. Else we can have a chat after the concert.

s_hari and Sathej might also join. Rajesh will be missed.

Coolji... you are right. Viruses are not welcome visitors, and should not be taken along by visitors.

Otherwise... unfortunately i have just come to the site for the first time today after 6.00pm, so I missed an easy trip up the road to Tiruvanmiyur to meet with you. Never mind; I guess I've been moderately busy today.

I am very very sorry. Will defintely make sure that other programs take place as per schedule.
BTW - had a great dinner yesterday with mantra, ram and vijay.
Small compensation..

me, ram, sathej and vijay met up around 5:30 near the venue. We enjoyed a nice snack and the concert courtesy vijay...

we met up with s_hari, mantra, srini_pichumani and vainika after the concert.

i couldnt spot sbala. like his usual self, he must have walked in (wish his wife?) and sat at one corner and gone back.

i had to leave from the venue and head homewards. others were making dinner plans...

I was sitting two rows behind a 'bespectacled foursome' whom I guessed to be rasika-ites...must have been the Vijay/Bharath/Sathej/Ram gang! Would have been nicer to have said hello to you all! May be next time...

Remember the Rasika's Badge idea someone came up?

Maybe we should think about that idea again.

I was one of the ones who encouraged the idea. Here is a company in Chennai that does this: http://www.indiamart.com/industrial-connections/ ( this is the company that makes the badges but it looks like they may not do small quantities but still worth a check )

How about someone like Cafe Press? They'll do a custom button for you and provide bulk discounts:

http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/p ... rue&no=141

The nice thing is that you could create a design and post a link here; whoever wants to can buy one... you won't have the hassle of handling orders, payment, stock, and shipment.

Right on the money :) All part of a master plan to get her interested in CM and so far things have gone well, thanks to the grand old ladies - Parasala Ponnamal and Kalpagam Swaminathan.

The "bespectacled foursome" would have been us no doubt...you can add Hari, Sriram (sbala) and Mantra among the other bespectacled rasikas in the hall to the bespectacled list! Only Vainika and Govindan manage to escape the tag!

Not valid if you 'count by eyes'! Multiply by four for each person...
Good ploy Sriram! Did not realize you had a srimathi, since she was not present at either of the rasikAs meet during the season!

Congratulations Sriram! Our very best to you both for a fabulous life together!
Good to know that we are gaining another rasikA in your alliance!

Talking about weddings, Ninja the Great got married in January. Haven't heard from him since. Hope he and his bride are doing fine...

ran into suresh and ram at the shahid parvez-gjr jugalbandi at krishna gana sabha

saw ranjini33 who had picked a seat -next to the exit-as though she wanted to escape if necessary- so unlike a shahid parvez fan !!!

was a great concert - was interesting to watch a conservative artist like GJR ,having to come out of the shell and adapt to duets.
the carnatic stream , became highly engrossing, once the tanam started and mathematics entered the performance.
I was lucky enough to get to meet Shahid Parvez backstage, even shake hands with him and exchange a few words. Thanks to GJR.
The concert started with a solo by GJR in Madhyamavathi (A Lalgudi Pancharthna Krithi) , next a solo by Shahid Parvez in Ragesri and then the duet - A RTP in Panthuvarali-Puriiya Dhanasri ending with a bit in Sindhu Bhairavi.
Take Home Memories....
Shahid Parvez rushing down from the stage and seeking the blessings of Lalgudi Sr, as soon as he came to know that he was about to go back home. And making his young Tabalji follow suit.

GJR played a Koteeswara Iyer's composition in Kosala before the Madhyamavathi. I thought I heard GJR announce it as Va guha Shanmukha but google says it is Ka guha Shanmukha. I liked the fadeouts of Shahid Parvez when he began the alaap but the concert seemed to drag until the RTP. The RTP was very nice. Personal highlight was Patri Satish Kumar's accompaniment as well as the tani. Ram can provide the more informed opinion.

Enjoyed cool(karni)ji's company and even gathered some Hindustani-fu over the concert. Also couldn't help but wonder how much more enjoyable the concert would have been if they do away with the "individual" portions, i.e. carnatic and hindustani spearately and just dive into the jugalbandhi right away.

Would have been wonderful to hear that bhairavi for a little longer!

Question papers were sealed and were being taken to the venue with tight security when reports last came in. They will be opened only at 4:25PM and the questions will be let out one at a time.

Yes. 4.25 PM is the start time.

A sudden spurt has been seen in the demand for tomatoes and eggs at the nearby pazhamudirsolai since yesterday evening. I hope its all for domestic consumption ;)

I thought the ad said 4.25...

Me too!

I'm sandwiching the concert between a business meeting (tax returns) and a family birthday party, so I may well be breaking my own concert-behaviour rules by arriving late, leaving early, etc etc.

I'll try to stay for the tani, though! ;)

Missing Rama Varma tonight on account of that birthday party, too :(
