From there I went to the Jam, which was great fun, and a great learning experience as they kept clobbering me with misra chapu .
Still, I got my own back by getting Vainika to follow me the wrong way down a busy one-way street
I know what you mean. That can be a one way street to no where. May be you should create your own two way street, play 6 + 8 ( one rupakam avarthana followed by one Adi avarthana) and see how it turns out.
Caught the film Margazhi Raagam in the morning. Amrutha Venkatesh sang an absolutely exquisite Sri Rajagopala....but the day belonged to Kambhoji - miraculously my first, this season - and to its messenger, Sanjaya.
Tomorrow I start off with the lec dem on Dhrupad, will stay on for Ponammal and maybe a couple of afternnon concerts. Sangeetha Sivakuamr in the evening and perhaps Mukul Shivputra at Kalakshetra...
Excellent Lec Dems back to back by Ritvik Sanyal (Dhrupad) and SRJ (Raga Lakshanas) with snatches of Parasala Ponammal's Ninnu Vina Gamari caught in the canteen sandwiched in between...sometimes choices are hard! Also met up with Arasi, Coolji, Ram, Arun, Vainika and his friend Chandra. Long chat session on TTK road followed lunch at Sangeetha....Sangeetha Sivakumar was the first concert - an excellent Shankarabharanam. Wound up with Priya Govind who presented a classical margam based recital at Brahma Gana Sabha
Tomorrow, will take in one more lec dem of SRJ's - I just can't have enough of him...maybe a bit of Sheela who's singing my favourite Karuvelupulu at the Academy. Pantula Rama in the evening again at the Academy and the HM concert by Ulhas Kashalkar to greet the new year...
Given how fast CM is 'globalizing' itself, Niagara has every chance of joining jOg in the league of ragas named after waterfalls, ahead of Shivanasamudra, kuTrAlam and athirapalli
Last few days mostly spent meeting friends and family. Went for Alarmel Valli's dance on the 3rd followed by Bangalore Shankar's and TMK concerts on 4th.
On 5th, had a great time at Vijay Siva's concert at Velachery with Prashant and his dad who were kind enough to take me along. Before the concert, enjoyed the hospitality of Sri RK Sriramkumar who also performed a splendid impromptu rendition of the 4th swara passage from Viribhoni! Wrapped up the day with an animated discussion outside the Raintree!
6th of course was the rasikas concert of Prashant and Ram. A wonderfully mature performance well beyond the artistes' years. And then, it was off to Mumbai - and here I am, back in office. I had a great time at the season and it was fun to meet and chat with all the forum-ites. Sadly all good things have to come to an end...already looking forward to next year
