Thank you... All being well, I will be there.

The most prominent landmark, heading South on CP Ramaswamy Road is CitiBank --- but that is on the corner of 3rd Street, so take the next left.

If coming North up TTK Road, one can take a right turn where there is a large furniture shop, and follow that road, crossing CPR road.

BUT... can someone please tell what has happened to the traffic system when heading North from Koturpuram? I gather we can no longer turn right onto Chamiers Rd.

ALSO... what time is the program due to start?

Yes. Chamiers road is one way now and all the car drivers have begun to think it's a Formula One track. The speeds are up making it even more dangerous for pedestrians like me. You have to take the Cenotaph Road to reach Mount Road now.

Mowbray's Road (TTK Road) without much traffic... 123 years back:

nickH, will u mistake me when I state that you seem to have a thorough knowledge of the roads of Chennai ,more than the traffic constables. Reverting to cricket, I think, with your thorough cbservation skills had you played for India aga, instSRILANKA you would have hit MENDIS , 6 sixes per over in the test matches, puutting to shame our money happy players

Cienu,
Along with trees, the ox driven carts and oxygen too...

srkris,
Even half a century ago, greenery prevailed and air pollution was not a fact of life...

Even two years ago the road up from Kotturpuram was a tree-lined avenue, But I must beware, or shall be starting with the politics again! Chennai has lost many trees in the last few years :(

skris, that is a wonderful picture. I saw one of Kapaliswara recently, surrounded by little other than a few palm trees. Even though that picture dates back much further, I think that most of Abhiramapuram is barely a half century old!

I discovered the South-bound route today, coming from Mounts Road, but how do I get from TurnBulls Road to TTK Road when heading North?

Oh dear... there was a map in The Hindu and we have lost it.

Gobilalitha; I know some of Chennai's roads well, including even some of its shortcuts and back routes. I lived in Abhiramapuram for two years and still miss it. I regret, though, that I have no interest in cricket at all.

Hmmm... as we all know, nothing is Rs12 in a Chennai auto.

I know the route well. It is the new one-way system and turn restrictions that I do not know. I have a feeling that one is not allowed, any longer, to turn right from Turnbulls ("Turn Bulls" as it says on the bus stop) Road into Chamiers Rd, and if the detour is bad enough it may be better to go through Mandaveli.

I just spotted this on Ram's excellent concert listings blog:
17th August2008 (Sunday)

12:00 PM – Sudha R.S. Iyer & Srividhya R.S. Iyer (Violin Duet), R. Ramkumar (That’s me!) (Mrudangam) @ Raga Sudha Hall, 85/2, Luz Avenue, Luz, Mylapore (International Society for Laya Awareness) **Free**
If I can manage not to be nocturnal this weekend, I shall be there, and certainly will support in spirit!

Nick,
Funny to hear what is on the bus stop sign. You could also call it Pamplona bus stop--pedestrians beware!

I have never caught a bus from there --- I have often contemplated it as the traffic moves slowly past on the opposite side of the road.

Turn Bulls (instead ofTurnbulls),must have been due to the fact that the few occupants occupying the road, over a hundred years back, asking the owners of the herd to turn the bulls away , grazing merrily in the bushy grass on the road, breeding mosquitos and causing dirt and filth on the road .WE KNOW IT IS THE NAME OF AN ENGLISHMAN GOBILALITHA

That is sort-of how I imagine it too!

Separate words must be joined; long words must be separated...

Does anybody know about the right turn there?

Is anybody going to see Ram play tomorrow?

It was very good.

It only lasted one hour --- I had failed to make the link between the concert and the function, being a competition of youngsters, the successful ones will be given slots to play during the season. Ghatam V Suresh is a prime mover.

Ram played with competence, and more. He produced a lot more flair and musicality than on the previous occasion --- but always as appropriate as an accompanist.

His brother was talking excitedly about the choice of concerts later in the day --- but I did some shopping, drove around some new streets for exploration, and then took the rest of the day for laziness.

Shall we return to reminder and contemplation of this coming Saturday?

I am very much hoping that the turn out will be more encouraging to Cool this time.

So, everybody --- all those family functions should take second place. Even if it is your own wedding, tell your bride/groom that they will have to manage without you for the evening!

Thank you.

Be assured that whatever the numbers, the audience quality will be high!

See you tomorrow --- unless, of course, I get stuck in a perpetual driving loop!

While the quality is not questioned, extra quantity of quality is even better :)

Well, I cannot attend as i live in the US, but I can definitely extend a very sincere "All the best" to Aishu for tonite's concert. Like they say, " Break a leg", in this case break a "bow hair strand".
