Namaskaram to Every body.
It is heartening to know a forum like this which discusses about various aspects of Carnatic Music.
I am Thyagarajan Mohan, a new member . I used to write articles on CM in rec.music.indian classical in early 90's. You might have already seen a copule of my postings.
Regards
Mohan

Hi,
I stumbled across this forum while searching for the song "thunbam nergayil". The member "srkris" had posted a thread on this song with a link to Rapidshare.com to download the song. Unfortunately the thread is over two years old and also Rapidshare no longer seems to have any of the songs mentioned n that thread.
I was wondering if someone would have another link where I could download the song, not just the carnatic versions but also the version from the movie Or Iravu.
Thanks and cheers

Tilt: I did not understand why it is a windows only thing. Are you sure? it looks to be a flash ( or something similar ) based player that can play in the browser on any computer, Mac or Windows. There are some Mac users here who listen to MOI links, so I know that is not a problem. Tinker around with it and see if you can play it. Copy and paste the link to your browser window and see if it works. Once you get that to play, you can do other things with it which I can not go into detail here.

VK and rshankar, the page loads (in Safari) and the player hangs with the message "Player OK, Loading..." and that's it. I have both the Realaudio and Windows Media Player plugins installed and it still does not want to play
Anyway, it does not matter now because I have received the song
BTW rshankar, Sangeethapriya does not exist any more, I get a message saying that the domain has been suspended.
Cheers

Hi
Iam a new member to this forum. Actually I came across this when I was looking for lyrics to 'needhu charana' kalyani song sung by MSS in the movie 'Savithri'. Even though its been 3 days since I joined, I was just spellbound by the various discussions to even intro myself! Iam absolutely awed by the knowledge that you all possess. Thanks to you all Iam learning the tala/laya aspects of CM too which has always been very elusive to me (have learnt CM vocal upto varnams properly and some krithis). Iam an ardent fan of MSS, DKP & Vasanthakokilam.

Hi, this is Anuradha. I was a disciple of Smt.Savithri Satyamurti, before I moved to the mid-west US a decade ago. She was a great teacher and I miss attending her class! Apart from attending class regularly, she insisted that we students attend as many kutcheris as possible and report to her, explaining what we liked, what we noticed, etc. During the December season, she'd encourage us to accompany her to various sabhas.
On Vijaya dasami days, I would stay at her home all day, helping her with receiving students, then giving the vettalai-pakku, cleaning the place, etc, as by afternoon, she'd get tired a bit. There were times when she'd tell us: "Inda janmaththula unakku paatte varaadu", which would make us cry, but also motivate us to practice really hard for next class. If she did not say anything, or had the slightest smile on her face, we'd understand that we just about passed!
I now have a 2 year old son and am eager to expose him to carnatic music. I keep singing little songs whenever I can. The other day, my husband sang one of those songs, but he has not learnt carnatic music, so he was off key (he was actually singing "vara veena") and my son said: "seriyaa paadu Appa".
I just hope that with all my enthusiasm, I do not push my son away from Carnatic music.

Welcome Manvantara. Nice way to introduce yourself. Your son seems to be already good at melodic pattern matching. The same way kids pick up any language of their surroundings with ease, it looks like if you surround them with music starting at that early age, they are bound to soak up on it and music becomes second nature to them.

Manvantara
I had an opportunity to pay my respects to Savitri Satyamurthy a few weeks ago, while running some errands for a friend of ours here.
Reminded me so much of Gangubai Hangal- unbelievable energy and enthusiasm at that age.
Inspite of the fact that I am a bit of a conservative in matters musical, I had to take care that I made my comments on musicians -past and present -carefully, to protect my ears from getting chewed off.
It should be very heartening for you to learn that she is doing very fine and possibly will grace our programs one of these days.
Welcome to this August gathering

An Old favourite of mine (From Readers Digest) which appeared long long ago in rasikas.org , makes a comback again.
[quote]During one of my first sessions in the US senate, Hamilton Lewis came over and sat down beside me. He was the chief whip at that time.
