On a frivolous note, Ravana-rajya would have been very good for carnatic music, with his expertise in kamboji etc ; Saint Tyagaraja might not have been so prolific though if that were to continue...

Palin is not distinguished enough to be Ravana. Although maybe CML used the analogy in the contrary sense

I totally agree.. viLayum payir muLayilE theriyum (one knows the glory of the crop from its sprouts).
I was stunned by the way she belted the swaras for the mohanam with utter confidence and keeping perfect rhythm! The training of our Sarmaji is quite evident and we get graphic proof that his system works. Kudos to Sarmaji!

You would have been even more stunned, and charmed, if you had seen her face: her eyes and her smile as she approached and coped with difficult bits, "this is going to be tricky... hang on... ahh, got it... see! I did it!"

She is a very charming girl, and will, indeed, if she wishes, be a fine artist.

We do have the advantage of having been there!

Have you tried just double-clicking on the file, in Explorer (having downloaded, of course)? Windows should know how to handle it!

The files are huge though. I guess this is completely uncompressed. (although I can find my way around audio formats, video formats is much more confusing, and I don't understand them)

I am happy to provide the download links for the DVD 3 AND 4, the full Video coverage of our Global Rasikas Meet 2010.

In these 2 DVDs, all the Rasikas who have attended the meet, self introduction was done and each Rasika have expressed their opinion about the contents and other policies to be incorporated by the Admin and Moderators in our website.

I am ambivalent about posting this: Yes it did have a perceivable undertone of troll-bait attributes (particularly since when raised in the context of this thread), but I also thought that the kind of "cleanup" that was done, and how it was done etc. rubbed me wrong as well, and could leave someone with the sense that the troll was perhaps on to something ]

. Are we are so afraid to debate certain issues that we would do preemptive strikes? The article that was linked to was biased but IMO not necessarily on a baseless premise - the conclusions and motives, and the broad-strokes painted seemed baseless.

I don't know how many people complained to the moderators about that post, but I was one of them. I don't know how extensive the "cleanup" may have been: it was just one post when I looked.

There is trolling of the mischievous kind, which does no more harm than to spark off an expected debate between expected persons, and there is trolling of a much more pernicious kind. To me, the post stank of the latter. Bear in mind, also, that the moderators might be privy to more information than just the post itself. Most forums have returning trouble makers; maybe this was one.

I do not believe that anybody here is going to stamp on someone who seriously wants to discuss caste in the history and present of carnatic music. It may be sensitive... but it can be done. To post such a question about our gathering, in this thread, was pure, mischievous unpleasantness. Passive aggressive it may have been, but none-the-less, aggressive it was.

As complainant... just thought I'd put my point of view, arun.

Arun, Your point is well taken. I am happy (as I am sure you are) to discuss this issue in a civil manner in a different thread, perhaps in the lounge. Going by the tone of your comment and your preliminary assessment, I would guess that my position on this issue is remarkably similar to yours.

The post in question, which seemed to suggest some ulterior motive to the rasika congregation in December reeked of mischief. I agree with Nick on this.

I sympathise with your views. The post was removed because we suspect that the poster is a 'known' Troll who is bent on disrupting this Forum and smearing it and who has been banned several times in different avatars. I agree with you that the topic itself is worth a serious discussion without bias as long as tempers are under control. You can start the topic at the lounge if you like and post the link to the article (or I can do iit if you like).
Of course as Nick points out this thread is not the place for digressing into those sort of generic diiscussions.

I am waiting for Arun who has balanced views to introduce the topic so that we can have a civilized discussion and analysis. Let us keep in mind only the future and glory of CM for the benefit of mankind. Constructive suggestions will benefit sabhas and future planners as also Teachers who are the backbone of CM propagation.

Let us confine here to discuss the issues of the Global Rasikas Meet 2010 so that we can keep the momentum and do better in future years. I look forward to Nageswaran sharing his experiences for the benefit of Future Planners. Also let us think of venues other than Chennai (Bangalore ?) for 2011..

It is a valid topic, but I dont seem to have the same drive anymore for active discussions (this is yet another reason for me being ambivalent about the earlier post). Is it possible to gather information regarding caste and religion in the thread BRIEF PROFILE OF ALL RASIKAS.

As such, such information is not available with us. This could have been made clear to the specific question on the subject.

In my opinion, as carnatic music is beyond the barriers of caste and religion, it may not be necessary to keep such information.

We have many Carnatic music exponents like Rajaratnam Pillai, Sheik Chinna moulana, Shri Kasim, Mambalam Siva, Shri Jesudas and many more.

Such a division is never thought off.

how about asking all pooNul wearing individuals, if they are vegetarian or nonvegetarian and if nonvegetarian, are they confined to fish and chicken or any other meat. That should help to differentiate even the pooNul wearing individuals.

Summation about our Global Rasikas Meet. 2010.

The mega event of the Global Rasikas Meet 2010 have been successfully completed with the climax of the Interactive session with
Sri Trichy Sankaran ON 06.02.2011.

It is time now for me to extend my thanks to many Rasikas and sponsors.

My first big thanks are to Mrs.Radha Bhaskar and Sri Mudhra Bhaskar.
Mrs. Radha Bhaskar’s timely help in fixing the Ramakrishna Mission School hall, extending in providing Mike set, Dias, chairs, and making the banner
for the Rasikas.org etc. In spite of my persistent enquiry regarding the hall rent payment, she had mentioned that the hall hiring payment will be done by her.

I have approached Sri Nalli Kuppusamy to sponsor for providing about 15 No’s of shawls for honouring the VIPs attending our meeting. He immediately obliged. I have invited Sri Nalli Kuppusamy to be our guest for our meeting.

After a rough estimation, I presumed that more important VIP musicians are likely to attend. Hence I have purchased an additional
5 NOS of Superior quality shawls also.

However, Sri Nalli Kuppusamy, T.R.Subramanyam, and Sri Trichy Sankaran could not be able to attend our meet because of attending the Sadas at the Music Academy.

2 NOS of shawls were used to honour Sri Trichy Sankaran and Sri Clevland Sundaram.

Many of the Chennai Rasikas have volunteered to help me out, particularly Sri Anandasangeetham, C.Rama, and Vishnuprasad for the smooth conduct of the event.

On my special request, Musicians Dr.Narmada, Mysore Nagaraj, Mysore Manjunath had graced the occasion in attending our meet.

Sri Narasimhan, father of Sri Chitra Veena Ravikiran attended our meet on the request of Sri Akellaji.

I am thankful to all the Rasikas who have attended our meet.

My thanks are to our Admin and moderators for having given me a free hand in conducting this event.

My big thanks to Sri V.K.Viswanathan who have meticulously worked out the schedule for our meet and moderating the event.
