Nageshwaran sir,
There is some uncertainty in my being in Chennai in the first half of December due to work, hence cannot confirm my presence yet. Will confirm as soon as I get some clarity.

As for the chitravenu, while I take the project very seriously, I hope I don't take myself too seriously :). Having a demo of my instrument may not be the most judicious use of a time when rasikas from across the world meet and interact about many musical matters in the presence of maestro Ravikiran.

Oh please... if we all promise not to take you too seriously, will you demo it? lol

It is true that "set pieces" take away from too-limited social time, but if we are to have any, I'd vote for a short chitravenu demo.

Nick ouch...no false modesty there...just a suggestion that there may be better things to do for the group, esp. with Chitravina Ravikiran being the host. As you have clarified yourself...no "set pieces" :).

Dear Rasikas,

Uday Shankar, the inventor of the Chitravenu, on second thoughts is ready to give a demo of his invention the" Chitravenu"
during our Global Rasikas Meet 3013".
The idea of my request is that the global rasikas attending the meet will have close look at the instrument and know more about
the instrument and listening to two or three songs played by him in person.

Perhaps the rasikas may give their opinion.

Dear Rasikas,
There is a typo error in mentioning the year of the meet as 3013 instead of 2013.

Thanks to eesha for pointing out the mistake.

The error is regretted.

Hello rasikas,

I just visited this thread again today and have noted the various ideas. It would be wonderful to have Uday do a short demo of the Chitravenu that day.
If the organisers agree - we can webcast the even live
I didn't know which organisers were referred to here but if it is me/my family, we have no objections to the webcast!

Looking fwd to having all of you over on 15th.

Shri Nageswaran, could I trouble you to provide me the final list of people around 12/13th Dec? Thank you!

What a rare name! This is the name of the instrument which Mahdendra Varma Pallava invented! That too in a thread which discusses another invention!

Dear Shri. Ravikiran,

Even we dunno who the "organisers" are. We assume your consent is good enough for the webcast. We will do the needful to stream it live.

Chalanata,

Latest research shows that the parivadini inscription was earlier wrongly attributed to Mahendra Varma. More on this later :-)

Unfortunately I will miss this as I'm arriving into Chennai only on 21st Dec. I still remember the Meet a few years ago at the Ramakrishna meet which was very well attended and had the opportunity to meet several of the forum members. Hope I get to see them when I do my concert hopping rounds. I will also publish the concerts schedules of my two daughters and look out for you in one of the venues.

If you webcast the event, it will be wonderful. If you decide, for technical reasons, that an edited version should be time-shift webcast even that is fine,

Mr. Nageswaran,
I regret I won't be coming in for the meet in Chennai.
Thanks.

Dear Rasikas,

Even though our meet is an informal one,we may observe some minimum protocol.

Sri Narasimhan, father of Sri Chitraveena Ravikiran will be our special guest.

My suggestions will be,

1. We may have our admin Sri srkris [S.Ramakrishnan] as the presiding officer.
2. Sri Chithraveena Ravikiran may give a welcome speech.
3. WE may observe two minutes silence to our dear legendary artists Sri MSG, Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman and Sri Subramaniam who are not with us physically now.
4. Invocation song; By. ????
5. Self introduction of members; They may give their original name, User name, field of working and the place they are working,
their interests in music etc briefly [ Three minutes].
6. Briefing about the innovation of the " Chitravenu" followed by two demo songs played by our Rasika Sri UdayShankar and answering any queries by the Rasikas.
7. Any other items to be discussed by the Rasikas.
8. Presidential speech by Sri srkris [S.Ramakrishnan].
9. Vote of thanks by MR. Nick.

Rasikas may give their suggestions.

I would remind of the early popularity of the idea to keep the function as informal and unstructured as possible. Many of us have met each other before, either at previous meets, or during our concert going.

However, I still like the idea of introductions. It helps me with my difficulty in matching names with names, faces with faces, and all other permutations of the two. I'd suggest that a single minute might be better than three (some people will over-run whatever!). And maybe large (for those of us who are hard of hearing --- and also have to wear reading glasses) name tags would serve the purpose.

It is Sri Ravikiran's home, and, if he wishes, he should certainly welcome us.

We have the Chitravenu demonstration, followed, hopefully by some questions and discussion.

We have the presence of srkris, who, I think, only a few of us have had the experience of meeting. Interaction (it is the in-vogue word) with him is a chance not to be missed.

As much time as possible should be kept for simply meeting with each other and chatting.

Thank you for your vote of confidence in my ability to make a vote of thanks :). I would be very happy to stand, with or without mic, and say a very brief thank you to our hosts of the house, our host of the forum, and to each and every fellow member for contributing and sharing as they do --- probably in no more words than that! And it is to my shame that it, after so many years, will still have to be in English. Or perhaps I could just stand up and say Nandri, rumba rumba nandri!

Nick,
mikka nanRi for your post :)

My thoughts...

We are not going to be in a hall, but in the home of a fellow member--a musical home at that, and the hosts are the ones who have to be consulted on anything concerning the meet at their gracious home.

Besides our wishes, Ravikiran himself has asked for Uday's demo. This comes under music.

As for the intros, just the names will suffice, because most of us know each other very well through the forum and outside of it too! Newer members can say more about themselves, adding a few lines.

If only we can get a little music from the host family too!

We will have more time left to interact with each other this way--the best way to make it a rasikas' meet, rather than a meeting held in a hall!

Delighted that our admin Ramakrishnan is going to be there. His presence can be utilized well by our interacting with him individually.

All this cannot happen, in my view, if things get formal, eating up a lot of precious time.

In fact, all of us have to circulate and make it a point of conversing with every member present!

At the beginning, we can say our names clearly and loudly, so that we can recognize each other by sight (some of us seniors may ask you to say your names again, when we chat!).

If not, we are only going to be waving to our friends from the forum that we know, not being able to talk during speeches and music.

Finally, it's the hosts who have a say in this, more than any of us :)

Thanks to Arasi and Ravikiran for their thoughts.

Among the recipients of any vote of thanks whether spoken or just in our thoughts has to be fellow senior forumite Sri Nageswaran. Without him, most of these events would not happen and he is continuing to put time and effort into this despite health problems. I hope he is comfortable with our suggestions.

Luckyforunites
All of those attending the meet and likely to attend the meeting at the residence of Chitraveena Ravikiran, please consider this opportunity as gathering (arattai arangam) not as meet. With Narasimhan Sir and C.R and may be other members of this illustrious music family, I suggest to have Q&A session and demonstration of Chitra Venu only. Questions to be submitted in advance with the name(s) to whom it is addressed and with the name of the questioner. You are having excellent opportunity to partake their individual and collective knowledge as prodigals, students, vidwans, instrumentalists, innovators, musicologists, teachers, composers, tune smiths, collaborators-Uttar and Western music, event organizers and rasikas of very high standards.
I also suggest GRM 2014 onward to be planned atleast 120 days ahead. Plan the GRM only during end of Nov or first week of Dec. Voluntary services for the meet by confirming participation or withdrawal and for the proceedings. Rasikas to be formed in to groups for personal greetings and interaction. Group leaders to announce the names of the members, briefly and interestingly. Have panel discussion and Q&A sessions. THU/FRI-08-30Hrs To 11-30Hrs. Sri Krishna Sweets, Adyar Ananda Bhavan, any other reputed caterers rasikas or Shri Nalli Kuppuswamy as 'official' patrons and sponsors for coffee/tea/snacks/lunch at affordable rates to be arranged. Chennai rasikas with cars can offer to pick up and drop forunites to the nearest place for getting the personal transportation-PTC and Auto Rikshaws.
Due to professional and personal commitments, I unlucky to miss this great opportunity.

Munirao, I think that your ideas are very good. I would love, for instance, to have an informal get-together with Ravikiran and other family members, to hear about the amazing musical upbringing that they experienced, from the earliest age. I recall something written in a blog, I think it was by one of the siblings, that revealed Sri Narasimhan's methodology of raising a musical family: it was completely mindblowing.

However, just as the interaction with Trichy Sankaran grew, as a separate event, a few years ago, I think these ideas should be slated for future times. This event is a meet, primarily a social[ising] event.
