A small Titbit..no offense meant..
I have seen many postings such as

" I am going to miss..."
" I am also going to miss"
" not going to come"
And the like..
Instead can not we say:
I will be missing...
I will also miss..
not coming.. etc.,

Kindly do not think that I am teaching English...to the learned members...
It just caught my mind..

I am not very learned, and I am suffering from the confusion caused by ten years of being used to Indian usage. Sometimes, in fact, I feel that I am forgetting my own language whilst still totally failing to learn another! :-\ L-)

(added to that, I have only had one mug of chai today, so my brain is lacking fuel)

So, as a native British-English speaker, but with all those provisos...

I don't think there is anything wrong with either of your sets, although I actually favour the first. It depends on context.

and...

I will not be missing the meeting on 14th morning :))

As a kid , I lived in an area where a lot of American expats lived and hence I had a lot of American kids as friends.
And, there , my English started getting weird too.

I did not eat nothing this morning.
Did you brought those with you?

I was always snarled by my English teacher and it reflected in my progress reports too.

I used wish instead of want in my first job.. " I do not wish to talk to him now, I will call later". that was not received rightly. You said "wish " and not "want". Grrrr , I simply meant that I wanted to call later.. rather wished!

So , Nick , a lot of us in India speak English than in UK and we are trying to standardize it too. "Dear" Nick, you cannot use " Dear " to just any woman here in your correspondences. It depends on the level of being appreciated, or it might have its consequences too. I have had my experiences too. Do you wish your Passport to be confiscated? ;)

I have a feeling that this is blues English! The double negative is wrong in both British and American usage, but finds regular expression in song*.

Men addressing each other as "Dear," is as strange to many foreigners as men walking down the street hand-in-hand. Don't worry: I have been here more than long enough not to misunderstand :))

Now for the big question... Who will attend on 14th morning at Nageswaran's house? I should be very sad if he and his wife prepare for us and nobody turns up.

PS... you are welcome to confiscate my passport, as long as you give me an Indian one in return! Had been thinking along those lines, but now Mr Modi has made the PIO card lifetime validity ...but that's another story.

*PPS: perhaps MKR could make a pallavi from I've got plenty of nothing; and nothing's plenty for me

This is one function when we meet and exchange pleasantries annually. I think many rasikas from abroad will miss this function. I request all rasikas who are available in Chennai to kindly attend this function. Still there are many rasikas whom we know only by their username. I do think that some of the rasikas prefer to remain anonymous. Let us have assemble in sizeable numbers. That will be the respect towards the host Mr.Nageswaran also who is taking so much trouble to organise this function annually in spite of his old age and ill health.

All especially
I have a personal family function to attend and it spread over dec 13th evening to 14th morning. I will give a try to be at 11 to 12 AM if possible on 14th Dec . For me no arrangements need to be made .

Nageswaran Sir,
The response so far has been not that high , I think very basic biscuits /tea/coffee with Water would do Sir . I am not sure if you have to prepare lunch . You are already giving your house for us to have a meet . Not that I am dampening your generous spirit , please consider my suggestion.

Absolutely.

I'm afraid it is too early for the internationals, and the locals seem to be in small numbers. I will be happy with tea and biscuits!

Nageswaran Sir,

I know this is a last minute request, but you may want to consider it all the same - or at least discuss this tomorrow for possible usage next year:

Dinamalar (http://isailive.dinamalar.com/) is doing something truly wonderful and selfless for rasikas around the world who are missing out on being physically present in Chennai during this glorious time of year. They are doing live webcast of a million events during this Season. I have been enjoying listening to a lot of youngsters since yesterday morning. I wonder if you could give them a call and see if they can do a webcast of the proceedings at your place tomorrow? Wouldn't that be really great for the Global Rasikas group? It will be but a step next to doing a global interactive meet - and simultaneously spare Mrs Nageswaran the burden of cooking for a hundred more visitors!!

Hari the Hopeful.

Last year, we had a semi-formal session with some eminent artists taking part. I think that Paravadini streamed that part of the event.

This year, it looks like we will just be having a meeting of friends (friends already or soon to be :) ) having a chat. I don't think that it would be appropriate to make that open to the world.

Just my thoughts.

True, I agree Nick H. Perhaps there could be a way around it if we were to ask people to sign in (and get them vetted by the moderators)? An invited artiste's concert could be broadcast (as and when we have one) to all and sundry, while discussions could be limited to members.

We had a highly interactive, informative and entertaining session.

Venkataraghavan,

First of all, welcome to the forum!
Sorry if it's all intriguing to you.

I just wondered what vasanthakokilam (who's not just a moderator and a valuable contributor (who also has a rAgA to his credit :) ) is going to react to 'tags and badges' :|

Some useful info: there's going to be a day of concerts in memory of our dear GBL on the 29th at Ambalam, in Adyar. Please look up the thread called Semakkulam Balasubramanian in this section to know the details.

I was not all there.

Please do not ask me for the list: I will leave people out and they will (maybe rightly!) be offended. Lists is like counting for me: some numbers will always be missed.

Rajeshnat was there. Lists and counting is something at which he is very skilled, so I nominate him as the list giver! And, perhaps, the giver of photographs too?

My ears are playing up worse than usual, so I missed a lot that was said, which is a shame, but I am very happy to say that enough people turned up to make it worthwhile, and that it was a gathering of friends, as hoped and expected; that some rasikas showed off their performing skills, With Aishwarya's violin topping the bill, with added konnokal from her father Vinod.

Thanks to all, and thanks to Mr and Mrs Nageswaran for their hospitality and participation.

The spirit of our rasikas initially was dampening. BUt on the d date, it went on very nicely. DEtailed report will come later.
At the start of the meeting, we observed one minute silence for the loss of our esteemed member- Sri Gobilalitha.
One minor correction. The varnam played by Aishu was in Yadukulakambodi-Ata talam composition of Tiger.
In the list posted by Nageswaran, sl no 9 is listed as GNB. But he is not GNB alone- He is GNB-LG-PR (Mr.Krishnakumar)

Mahavishnu...if your father is the one in the centre(in the photo attached) then he does know me very well..in fact we teamed with his VHS for organising a blood donation camp at ABN AMRO, where I worked for some time, before moving to Muscat.

my invitation to him for the GURUSMARANAM event on the 26th Dec, as also to all the rasikas in Rasikas and outside.

I am like the bAwarchi character played extremely well by Rajesh Khanna, where he tries to be nostalgic and gets connected with anybody and everybody, stating some greats name where he worked earlier. for me all my associations thus far has been likewise...

Speeches Review of Global Rasikas Meet 2014
-------------------------------------------

# In December season in concerts the crowd gets very thin , to an extent that is also true with our meet . But just as musicians perform with quality irrespective of crowd , our enthusiasm just remained the same despite despite limited attendance

# The meeting was kind of chaired by the host Nageshwaran (shiva) with Mahavishnu's appa brahma (Dr Balasubramaniam(?n)). I missed possibly 20 minutes or bit more . As i walked in Dr Brahma was talking about maharajapuram santhanam - they were kind of that close , perhaps a supernova musician's #1 rasika was Dr Brahma.

# Dr Balasubramaniam Brahma told his association of Santhanam. HOw he practices , his love for food and music , how he change his style , his presentation in janaranjakam style particularly OVK krithis with copious references of different krithis. Also how he was there early morning at santhanam's house when santhanam made an early morning coffee at that time they both heard that DKJ passed away. Santhanam sir said sangeetha kalanidhi vanginAn ready azhaidanum. He also added semmangudi inta paraka , my mind popped with one side going with nadanamakriya and the other mayamaalaagowlai etc. Dr Brahma also talked few words about the memory of these musicians . Personally I could relate to all that of maharajapuram santhanam , as I started CM significantly with him and his death was most gruesome way back in 1992 . Certainly no one has captured an audience love as much as maharajapuram santhanam.

# Nageswaran covered many aspects . The Connecion of GS Mani and Him . Nageshwaran love for santhanam sir's valaci .He gave an episode after many years when santhanam recollected nageshwaran sir and said neenga thana en valachi romba ketpEl. Memory and Carnatic Musicians can have endless anecdotes.Nageswaran sir's love for MSG is well known , if I can add Nageshwaran sir is #1 rasika for MSG . Anecdotes of MSG were shared and he also touched upon Dr Balaji (appa of violinst B ananthakrishnan) who learnt violin in benaras and was also visiting faculty there at banaras .

# Dr Narmada added her spice uniquely . While rest were words, she added contextual raga alapana and krithi snippets every where .She talked about her grandfather contribution to different garanAS , her appa love for many ragas like nalinakanthi , ms amma love for katrinile , mmi - eppovaruvarO etc... I have noticed Dr narmadha passion runs the highest when there is discussion about HM-CM , she told she is doing some project on ashtapadis and HM. Her treatment of kamas with snippets of mmi premajuchi naapai , an ashtapadi etc ... She is always a scholar and she continued pouring contextual bits of information.

# Sivaramakrishnan spoke briefly about mmg and nadanamakriya difference , he is a bit of scholar who dropped out of performing music. Crama gave a crisp vote of thanks , thanking many and he rightly told the start was bit disappointing prior to the D day but it certainly went well.

# Rajesh spoke less about santhanam and his jaffna connection. krishnakumar (GNB_LGJ_PR) talked about the famous nattaikurinji rtp of gnb with MSG and CSM. Nick was enjoying

# Vinod Venkataraman (VRV) spoke briefly - I will leave that to him. Tx to him , without he and his daughter it would have been a local 2014 meet.

# VRV's daughter Aishwarya and Mrs Nageshwaran were tongue tied and they were a lovely pair. They had more to offer bit later.

Music Review of Global Rasikas Meet 2014
-------------------------------------------
# Apart from Dr Narmada singing lot of snippets to illustrate few points , Sivaramakrishnan sang a very nice pracheena kannada song kalayAmi nanda of ST. He has spent considerable time at trivandrum and his music was in the lines of few disciples of semmangudi - seetha rajan, parassala etc.

# Madhav Rao has a special liking of dasar pada. He sang a fairly long number of a dasar pada in ragam durga.

# Young Aishwarya with violin was simply superb. She and her father just arrived from US, and they were in jet lag. She played continously for 35 minutes . It was like a spa massage to our tired margazhi body.

Aishu started with a series of raga alapanas in nAttai, kalyani , shree ranjani , sahana, bilahari and then ending with yadhukula kAmBodhi . She recently has learnt few more sangathis of the veenai kuppaiyar varnam and she ended with the varnam in yadukulakAmbOdhi .

# My photographs are ok , I think vrv and aishu took it with iPad , those resolution are better . Let them upload more. All the audio recordings are recorded by Nageshwaran sir with memory running out of his zoom recorder in the last 35 minutes for aishu.

Special shout out for Nageshwaran sir and Family:

# Nageshwaran sir and his wife Mrs nageshwaran heart is much bigger than all global rasikas put together . Thank you sir and madam, your hospitality and special sandwiches(my tongue tied there) , tea and biscuits were wonderful. He ordered special sandwiches and they were really good.

His love with no strings attached policy is wonderful. For the second half nageshwaran sir's daughter , son in law , their two kids also joined us. For those of you who recollect nageshwaran's grand daughter srinidhi sang in one of the meets few years back at mudhra hall.

I am just attaching the link below for you to savour Aishu's ragamaligA with yadukulaKambOdhi varnam end .Her end in varnam was just incidental . This varnam is veenai kuppaiyar (VRV announced erroneously as tiger varadachari)

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET 2014

Post by munirao2001 »

rajeshnat Sir,

You have reported Sri Madhav Rao, a friend of Sri Nageshwaran and a special invitee, as Muni Rao, by mistake. But I have also learnt lot of Dasarapadams from my Guru and Father SSRao, who was considered authority on Daasa Saahithya and music.

Sri Nageshwaran Sir and other members who have attended this meet, I am sorry to have missed this meet. Owing to the advancing years and other responsibilities, I very rarely leave Bengaluru.
