Ah, the Varali superstition. My teacher makes it a point to avoid Madhyamavathi and Varali.

hello Mr.Suresh...
actually gurudakshana is the procedure implemented to show our gratitude and respect towards our guru.
as it is classical field ----the best way to respect ur guru is to give different varieties of fruits...
if u r inted u can also buy some traditional clothes but that is not mandatory...
it is not u show ur respect towards ur guru only if u give him some costly items like silver or gold...'
above all it is the utmost sincerity u pay in learning music and bring good name to ur guru..ofcourse that takes time bcoz still u r a beginner
all the best for ur career...

@nick H : (Of course, I have learnt a vast amount about the culture in which I now live from him).

Again, inquisitiveness - the line suggested you are from another culture... ??

Music has no barriers and learning is universal. The discussion about origin and culture during anyone's participation should be confined to highlight this point of universality.

hello everybody..... :D

just thought of doing something relaxed [not really axed!]

if we in the south give "guru dakshiNa", will students in the north give "guru uththarA" ?

about ravikkai, if not stiched as a blouse, it will not be having sleeves.... so, is it "ravik" ?

will a good "uthareeyam" be a balancing factor for [guru] dakshiNa?

shall continue later.... [ jus for fun only ]
