Great idea! One of the thoughts doing the rounds is a full recital by violinists whom we know mainly as accompanists, and rarely get to hear them as soloists.

Could we perhaps try for a repeat of the Shriramkumar / Varadarajan duo in this context?coolkarni wrote:One of the thoughts doing the rounds is a full recital by violinists whom we know mainly as accompanists, and rarely get to hear them as soloists. Maybe 4 or 5 such concerts next year.
Also for themes, I wonder if our vINA duo could explore compositions of the others in the dIkshitar parampara - there are so many weighty subbarAma dikshitar compositions which would definitely be worth bringing out. Ambi Dikshitar compositions also are available, as well as some paTnam kritis very much influence by MD.

How about having no 'farmAyish' at all and allowing the artist - particularly violin or vIna artists - to explore the boundaries of rAgas - not more than two rAgas per concert - and probably no tukkadas?

Wonderful!
Congratulations Ram on your 'graduation' (guru's blessings for a debut performance)! Last year, we saw you on the sidelines (literally). Now on the stage! Your playing for Prashant makes it doubly delightful.
Yes, Cool, If the venue is going to be Chennai (and not Bangalore in January), then, as Arun says, within the season's time frame would be nice.

I had discussed with Kji about October 25th, but I have no problem with a December date if it works out of for Kji WRT logistics. Of course, we will have to pick a date when UKS Sir is not performing, so that Ram is free!!!arunk wrote:prashant and Ram - that would be great indeed!
coolji - may I request this one (and/or others depending on logistics etc.) to by in the december timeframe - say around 15th or so? I plan to visit again this December - for about 5 weeks.
Arun

Great news - Ram's graduation as Arasi puts it...really heartwarming to see that two of our members will be teaming up...who knows, this might be an Ariyakkudi-Mani Iyer combination in the making! Eagerly look forward to it - season time would be great but the sooner the better - as long as it is recorded, we can always tune in to the proceedings

Message from Smt. Sowmya:
"I'm indisposed with a bad cold, fever and a sore throat. Doc has advised total rest for a week, with special emphasis on 'mouna vratam'! Hence the decision to postpone the 28th programme, which I was eagerly looking forward to. My deep regrets for the last-minute cancellation. Hope to see you all at a later date.

Wish Smt. Sowmya a speedy recovery....I am sure that 'postponed' treat will sound even sweeter!
Yes - IIRC, Smt MSS' concerts at the start of her career used to be family affairs with her mother on the vINa and her brother on the mrudangam. Some of the most awesome concert recordings that float around these days are the ones where Sri. SSI, and or Smt MSS are accompanied by Koduvayur Sri Narayanaswami on the vINA.nick H wrote:Vocal with Vina?
Was this a regular thing before the violin became the standard?

This is going to awesome! I personally am amazed at the flexibility and accomodation of these artists to step into the breach at such short notice. Mantra - Best Wishes in hosting a great concert.mantra wrote:Regret to announce postponement of SOWMYA's concert to a suitable date in Sep. Instead we will have a grand vocal-veena duet by

Sorry for being a bit late with my announcements.
mantra , thanks for all the help.
Yes, Sowmya's indisposition set me on a roller coaster ride for a few hours.
The few Hours where I was convinced that I made a mistake by taking Engineering For a Profession.
Phew !
I could not one single replacement , across the spectrum of talent available.
Anyone who could sing or strum , seemed to be booked in Chennai , or catching a train to Mananrgudi, Karaikudi... list was endless.
NSG's Slot had been reserved for the all Tyagaraj Concert , but I had to fall back on this option to save the day.
Thoughtful artist that he is , he picked on the idea of singing to the accompaniment of a Veena after reminding me about a very pleasant afternoon I spent in his Home listening to him sing while playing the Veena himself.
On that day I did not have the nerve to disturb him from the hypnotising mood he had moved into, and as a result , I went 11/2 hours late to pick up my son from school.
Long after the last soul inside the KFI campus had left (except for the watchman).
That was one great experience followed by an Amir Khan listening session.
And on the day I made my latest call , he was still listening to Amir Khans Suha and was in raptures.
This is promising to be one great occasion , if my earlier experience is a benchmark and so folks , please do come in good numbers and make it a grand success.
Vijay - I Hereby .Order the stars to align themselves and give you passage to land in Chennai on saturday.

Neyveli Santhanagoplan has formulated the ‘Nadalaya Yoga’, where veena and vocal music are combined to heal the body and mind
“Nadayoga is the only yoga where listener and performer receive equal benefits.â€
