Roses, jasmines, champaks, tuberoses...which would appeal to us most? manOranjitam?--which I do not come across at all these days, contains different fragrances (bits of the preceding ones too, all in a sweet enchanting blend). Personally, I won't rank artistes. 'Leading' is another word which is misleading. They all have their individual qualities and appeal which don't lend themselves to comparison. Since the thread says artistes, surely, it includes instrumentalists too...

Can we have a similar discussion for female carnatic musicians too. I find this thread very interesting , hence this request. My choice is
Gayathri-girish.

This kind of a ranking is a futile exercise and waste of time (my opinion). Eash artist has his / her strengths (Bhavam, manodharmam, expertise is raga alapana, kritis rendition, swarams etc and crowd pulling, excel in teaching/imparting the divine art (SHri PSN, Govinda Rao, Dr. Pani, .....). Crowd Pulling cannot be a criteria to rank an artist. For eg. MDR was not a musician for the masses but one of the highly reverred / respected artist.
This kind of raking is akin to asking a child - whom do you like the most, father or mother ?
This thread has potential to grow like an hanuman vaal

Not only that. A platform for 'my dog is better than your dog' kind of assertions which leads to heated arguments. As I said before, I enjoy music in all its variety. I like listening to many artistes, young and old.

Since this thread can lead to bitterness by comparison, should it be ideally closed?
