Dr. Sunder
Welcome to the forum. You are indeed a very interesting carnatic personality.

How do you get time to do both music and your profession?

Hi I’m sriram . I’m learning carnatic vocal for 3 years. I’m a disciple of Sri Akella Mallikarjuna Sharma garu. I have been performing several concerts . I have a question for Praveen : 'Would u please tell me how to calculate to render the mishra-jati (7-units) as a muktayee first in chaturashra-gati or nada followed by another muktayee in trisra-gati or nada to sing it in the 2nd degree of Svarakalpana (@ 4-units per each Kriya) for the Pallavi of the Kriti Sarojadalanetri-Shankarabharana-Adi (medium-tempo).

It seems you are trying to start a new topic from "Welcome to new members" thread.
Click on Index (on the black band at the top of the page). Then select the relevant forum (general discussions, sangeetha kalalaya.etc) You will find an option for new topic on the top right

hi everybody. I am an avid listener of Carnatic Music and with such a good forum for rasikas like rasikas.org, I feel excited that I can write my thoughts about the concerts I listen during the December season this year. I am very glad to have attended my first concert of the season and have begun a thread under Reviews of Music concerts. Hoping to write more reviews this season.

I have been around in this forum for the last 1 year and have almost been addicted to it - can sense some kind of withdrawal symptoms if I stay away from rasikas for more than a day or two
Rasikas helps enhance my knowledge of CM all the time & it feels great to have such a learned bunch of folks for company.
I have been an avid listener of CM for a couple of decades now - mostly on radio/ CD/ cassettes. Have started attending concerts over the last 2+ years - thanks to a good decision 4 years ago to relocate to Chennai! This is the place to be
for CM aficionados.
I have had no formal training in CM but decided to take the plunge some 4 months ago...am learning from a guru probably half my age (he is a 3rd year Music student and a good teacher in the making!) - just graduated from Malahari to Mohanam/ Kalyani geethams over the last 2 weekends.

Dear all,
I am Arulalan, a PhD student from the Indian Institute of Science.. As Sridhar_Rang has said.. I had been addicted to this site for more than a year.. Infact the reviews by some of the members here have been so lively that it makes us get a feel of having attended the concerts. Though I have not learnt carnatic music..I am an avid listener of CM...
With the amount of information this site gives, it is more of a Gurukulam for people like us..
Great to be here!!

Hi,
I am a member in this forum for the past few months.
I am a dancer, student of Chitra Visweswaran and also learning music.
I would to say here that my husband has brought out a book, RAGA CHINTAMANI.
Ragachintamani is a compilation of tamil cine songs based on classical ragas. It has an introduction of the general pattern of ragas and their varieties. A brief introduction of around 160 raga is given and the cine songs based on that raga is listed. The arohanam and avarohanam of the raga is also given, which may be useful for those who are in orchestra troupe who may be in need of this information. Once again the songs vs ragas are given in an alphabetical order so that you can easily locate the raga for a song. So far the tamil cine world might have produced millions of songs and as a first step he has only brought around 1500 songs.
Regards,
Jayanthi
