Voleti Venkateswarulu

and now... PLEASE DONT GO BONKERS !!
This is again a trailer.since file sizes are large , we may have to wait for padren to upload -if only i can intercept him in chennai in the next two days- otherwise we will go about with my
snail-uploads.
and yes these are very old dd clips.one can notice it from the setting of the stage..
One of my friends here used to say
"the first time I went to a Voleti concert , I had to walk up to stage to see if it was he who was really singing , or if the music came from some other tape-player by his side. His face and body used to be so still !!
I can see his problem , after watching the video.
Mesmerising- Such angelic emotions on his face.
May his Soul rest in Peace !

I still cannot believe it. PattiViduva is a great song. No words to thank them. Let me add double sri to them.
Sri Sri Padren and Sri sri Coolkarni, you are ultimate.
How about the tambura playing girl? Can anyone identify? Whenever Sri Voleti sings in Madras. tambura usually comes from Sri Lalgudi's house.

Many thanks to Shri. HMG Murthy for uploading Shri. Voleti's AIR program to sangeethapriya.org. What a melliflous, weighty, and sublime kambhoji alapana, followed by Sri Raghuvaraprameya !!!.
When I was talking to my dad last night about Voleti Garu, he told me that his guru Shri. Pinakapani used to call him 'gomukham' because of his motionless, statue-like posture while singing:).
Does anybody have a recording of Voleti Garu's 'Kadale Vadu' in Narayanagowla?

There are mistakes in books as well as different artists rendering the kirtanas in different ways too.Lakshman wrote:In T.S.Parthasarathi's book Tallapakkam Annamacharya kitanangal the ragas given are mukhari/revati.
In Chimagurti Chanriah Reddy's book Annamacharya Kirtanaigal the raga given is kamavardhani.
AkatiVelala, tuned by Sri Voleti is in Revathy.

Vijay!! If the recording was 1982 then there is no chance of TMK as he would have been 6 yrs old. However, just to clarify, am not talking about the one who is sitting behind Karaikudi mani. In the third foto, we can see one man who is listening intently to Voleti. That guy kinda resembles TMK. Thanks

Both the guys are same. The photo is from a different angle. As mentioned by another rasika, he is Mr Vittala Ramaiah of AIR, must have come along with Sri Voleti.thathwamasi wrote:Vijay!! To complete the Voleti "kutcheri set" uploaded by others, here are my humble little contributions that can precede the Durbar and Varali, a beautiful 'appetiser' if you will, a lovely rendition of Sarasiruhasanapriye (with GJR, KRM who makes his mridangam sing): http://www.sendspace.com/file/14jkrw
and to follow all the superheavy bhairavis, Sankarabharanams, Kharaharapriyas: a mesmerising Ragamalika Viruttam,
http://www.sendspace.com/file/nb5dnw
followed by a Javali in Yamuna Kalyani. Violin accompaniment is something out of this world, by Akella Mallikarjuna Sharma and Mridangam by Kamalakar Rao.

A nice dessert after such a heavy main course, no?

Extracted from an article from the following link (a nice article)
http://sankaran-geeess.blogspot.com/200 ... ughts.html
"The question whether classical music , like pop music, is mass entertainment or basically meant for the reasonably well-informed rasika can be debated till the cows come home. I submit that it is not meant for mass entertainment in the sense, say, fusion music or film music is. If it is, you have to cheapen the profound classicism of Carnatic music. It is like asking whether classic literature is for mass entertainment? The very word ‘entertainment’, I submit, is sacrilegious to the discerning listener in relation to classical music. Not from a religious or spiritual angle but from the generally accepted requirement that it should not only be aesthetically pleasing but elevating and uplifting too. As a matter of fact, the average concert-goer is reasonably well-informed and it should be the endeavour of our musicians to provide the necessary atmosphere and impetus to development of that trait. This implies that the artiste must, as a matter of principle, sing first and foremost for ‘atmathripti , that is, he must be satisfied himself that he is giving of his best; then only he can expect the rasika to be pleased and satisfied. And have a feeling of being elevated. I can quote no better example of an artiste whose music so patently exuded ‘atmatripthi’ than the (late) Voleti Venkateswaralu. It was a treat as much to watch the great man singing with eyes closed meditatively, without allowing intrusion of external objects, as to listen to his profoundly deep, soothing and elevating music. I would like here to quote the great musicologist and Guru Dr. Pinakapani on the
late Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer when he took up Durbar for alapana: “---during this time he is lost—he doesn’t bother about the accompaniments, the platform or the audience. He just closes his eyes and goes on.â€
