After the Phyan cyclone taking a detour on his way to the Gateway of India, we landed at Dadar, welcomed by a pleasant weather. As my friend shri bharathy mani put it nicely, the cyclone took a diversion because Bal Thackeray announced that cyclones which have a Marathi name can only enter Mumbai and scared it! :D

Shri Ramesh Ramamoorthy gave a short and sweet introduction about the artistes and Bhavadharini, a sishyai of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Smt. D.K.Pattammal, commenced the concert with sarasUda. She nicely sang thisra gathi for pallavi-anu pallavi and mukthAyi swaram and the chathusra mEl kAlam too, for the rest of the varNam. She did a nice sketch of hamsadhvani and that was followed by vAthApi gaNapathim. Ragas like hamsadhvani and nattai goes unsung (alapana) as they serve as opening batsmen of the innings. So, it was great to hear an alapana in that raga.
bAgAya nayyA was followed by mAmava in slow speed. I am going to ask her to sing maNirangu in one of her concerts during the season. Her voice has vigour, throw and also good in delivering soft phrases.

Her three minutes bilahari with prayogas like ‘ga pa dha ma.... gari’ ‘ga pa dha sani panidha gadha pa ma.... ga ri’ and the reaching down at dhA in nee mahima "palamEmu"

#12 - was it 'eppaDi pADinaro aDiyAr appadi pADa nAn ASai koNDEn sivanE'? If so, I thought Smt. DKP (and her disciples) sing it in karanATaka dEvagAndhAri and not jOnpuri. Is this a new song?
