The fans of TNS who gathered in large numbers in Infosys Hall, Ramakrishna Mission School, Bazulla Road, T.Nagar had literally a field day. It was a wonderful concert I heard of TNS after so many years. The list is given below.

1. Sarasijakshi- Varnam - Nayaki- Khanda Triputa
2. Dayajoochuda- Ganavaridhi - Adi- Tyagaraja
3. Ela needayaradu- Athana - Adi- Tyagaraja
4. Neethumahima- Hamsanandi- Adi- Muthiah Bhagavathar
5. Mokshamugalada- Saramati- Adi- Tyagaraja
6. Saragunapalimpa- Kedaragowla- Adi- Ramanathapuram Sreenivasa Iyengar
7. Mohana valli- Manji - Adi- Kavi Kunjara Bharathi
8. Tum Bin More- Peelu- Meera Bhajan
9. Thillana- Bilahari-Adi- Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar
10. Mangalam

The Concert started in time. From the beginning TNS voice was very good and supported him to execute his imaginations. The rarely heard Nayaki varnam was an indication for the rich fare to follow. . He gave a brief alapana of Ganavaridhi and a few round of swaras. This was followed by the alapana of Athana for about 10 minutes to which M.Chandrasekharan also replied in 5 minutes. The keerthana was rendered with full of sowkhyam. Neraval was done in Raa raa Devadideva. As against the normal tendency of vidwans to sing breezy second kala swaras for Athana, TNS rendered highly imaginative phrases in first and second kala and the first kala swaras were notable for the rich bhava it conveyed. While doing kuraippu, he ended with dha and pa alternatively. This was followed by Hasmsanandi alapana for 10 minutes to which M.Chandrasekharan also replied in 5 minutes. His voice was so cooperative that he could travel all the three octaves without any difficulty. The alapana contained long karvais, jaru prayaogas and fast brighas which were executed with utmost precision. Swaras were rendered for the Pallavi with lot of swaraksharas and at various points of eduppus like neethu, mahima, pokada na tharama. Mokshamu galada was started from Sakshatkara. The keertana was rendered with lot of feeling in a leisurely kalapramana. Next came the alapana for Kedaragowla which lasted for 20 minutes. He was in great form and we could feel that he is adorning the Varaguna Seshadri with the choicest flowers and garlands and jewellery through the exquisite sangathis. M.Chandrasekaran was the first rasika of TNS and he showered with "bhale"

crama, very nice review indeed. your review reveals clearly the way you really enjoyed the concert.

A wonderful conert , TNS enthralled the audience with Ketharagowlai and atana, made the audience spell bound in saragunapalimpa' and Peelu bhajan.

The concert still reverberates in my ears. The alapanas niraval and swaras will last for ever in the audience mind.

CRama wrote:The song that followed was rendered with a lot of bhava - the nayika longing for Krishna’s arrival.
Song #7 is from Kavi Kunjara Bharati's azhagar kuravanji, and speaks of princess mOhanavalli's longing for the deity of azhagar kOvil.

*sigh* ... Never been lucky enough to hear a detailed Kedaragowla from the maestro. I've even heard a stunning Surutti RTP in a recording and Yadhukula Kamboji many times live, but never a Kedaragowla ...

Unfortunately, yes. Although I must confess that I'm looking forward to solace of a vicarious form through this forum :)
