I have heard GNB, MMI used to perform quite a lot of Mariage concerts even with one RTP. These days mostly the marriages are thru Violin, Saxaphone, Mandolin, Veena etc.
The trend has set in a different mode altogether, centring around light songs.
what is our members take and views on this. At least I am sure no RTP is sung in family functions, beacuse of time and varied tastes.

Wedding kutcheri-s are becoming more rare these days. They usually get slotted on during the reception and during this time there is a lot of noise.
For those who want a Carnatic concert, the instrumental concerts are more popular as they serve more as background music for the 'event'.
I still cherish the vocal concert at my wedding (9 years back) that featured TVR with UKS on mrudangam. My wife and I had requested Sahana and Varali and both were featured! The concert went on for around 2 hours and since both sides of the marriage were into Carnatic music, the concert was well appreciated.

I cannot recollect. But I really pity him. It was a namesake entertainment. A few of us sitting before the artist.
Since reception is a time when most people also socialise, nobody bothers about the concert.

I have attended a wedding reception concert where the artist is the Numero Uno among female carnatic vocalists. Everyone listened to her songs with keen interest. The best part was she sang many popular songs requested by the audience and they loved it. thanks to her it was a memorable wedding for all.

I elected to have nadaswaram and Thavil for our small wedding gathering. Whilst the social event continued, the whole affair was small enough (maybe thirty people on a house terrace) for us and others to enjoy the music.
One complaint I have heard from couples who have larger-scale affairs is that they themselves are barely able to hear, let alone to enjoy, the music.

I feel unless both bride and grooms side are inclined to music, having such concerts in weddings is better not done. I cannot stand the disgrace when people choose to chew in front of the performing artist or drag chairs and speak in 'louder' volumes to communicate with person sitting next. Unless people attending have a discipline which comes with an inclination towards carnatic music, I would prefer not having any.
