2011 concert planning

Post by VK RAMAN »

I received an email from a friend of mine as given below.

Huntsville India Classical Performing Arts (HICPA) had a Carnatic Music Concert by Sankaran Namboothiry in June. We had it at our house.
A couple of weeks ago we had a Hindustani Classical – vocal concert by Mr. Arijit Mahalanabis at the temple auditorium. It was well received. Arijit is from Seattle.

Next Saturday (Sep 18) we are hosting Mr. Salem Shriram (Memphis, TN) for a Carnatic Music Concert at the temple.

On October 30th, we will have Kiranavali Vidyasankar for a concert. It looks like this will be our last concert for 2010.

We are in the planning process for 2011. If you know any musician coming from India or who is living in the US and who are willing to come to Huntsville, please let me know.

We cannot afford to pay a lot of money. Interested artists, please contact me at [email protected] so I can direct such interested artists to Huntsville India Classical Performing Arts, Alabama

In the US nobody (of some repute) does tEngAy mUDi kaccEris. Even the so-called charity performances involve expenses associated with travel, local costs, and the cause of the charity for which the audience have to contribute significantly. So, if you are short of funds (especially in the US) you are out of luck. The starved-rasika either has to travel to another location to attend a concert or rely on the music available on the net. As for the music club in Huntsville, they can pool all their funds and arrange one or two kaccEris which they can celebrate and remember. Quality over quantity!
