madhyamAvati short sketch

It was a great concert. The AlApanais of mOhanam, bhairavi and chArukEsi were very elaborate while all the others were short and sketchy and crisp. The compositions were rendered very well. The beginning of the concert with a crisp nATTai, set stage for a grand evening. The mOhanam AlApanai was very good and classical. The kriti was rendered well. The AlApanai of bhairavi was very indicative of a very grand piece. The varNam being nothing short of that. The AlApanai of the asampUrNa mELA bhavAni was pretty interesting and nice on the ear. The kriti was rendered very well. The main charukEsi was very good and displayed all the colours of the rAgam. The kriti was rendered well too.

The accompanists were good and did a very nice job in accompanying appropriately for the concert. The tani was good too.

How frequently does Sri.Sriram give violin concerts? I have had several occasions to listen to the so called vocal jugalbandis of him and his wife. Very bad combination. First of all Sriram is a very ordinary vocalist and he has single handedly finished his wife's fairly decent carnatic talent by making this partnership. She has to sing at the higher octave to match up with him and it turns out to be just yelling.

The jugal bandhi is another matter! Though I haven't heard him play solo, I have heard him as an accompanist and like his playing very much. Haven't heard him play for younger artistes yet--only seniors.

All hail the new trend in Carnatic music of singing varnams in the middle!Soon we will have musicians starting the concert with an abhang, a Meera bhajan or some Rabindra Sangeet.

The decline has started. The fall is not too far off.

Your devotion to "order" may be misplaced.

harimau,

Some of your posts are almost like trolls! Indeed, I concur totally with sureshvv. The order isn't that important, and not at all integral to Carnatic music's "tradition" in any way. It's just a convention. I see you aren't blasting off left-handed mridangists ... why is that? Aren't they violating the glorious tradition in mridangam "begun" by PMI?
