Ranjani (Hebbar) Guruprasad for Nadopasana

Post by sureshvv »

Here is another brilliant vocalist who has somehow evaded the attention of the Chennai carnatic orthodoxy. Impeccable sruthi suddham and a fine patantharam are evident in her presentation. Her manodharmam is also limitless and at times her concerts become a torrential exchange of bale's and sabhash's from the audience which she feeds on to come up with even more spectacular sangatis. Of late her voice has also become much stronger and less shriller. If you have not heard her recently, you should.

The (incomplete) song list:

1. Dakshinamurthy slokam
2. Sri mahaganapathim bhajeham, atana, adi, [raga overivew, swaras @ pallavi line]
3. Hindolam, Ramanukku mannan mudi tharithaaley, adi, arunachala kavi, neraval & swaras @ pattam katta ethavan di
4. Dharmavathy, Guru purandara dasare nimma charana kamala, adi, vijaya vittala dasa(?)
5. Devi brova samayamidhe, chintamani, adi, SS
6. Harikambodhi, Dinamani vamsa, adi, Thyagaraja, neraval swaras @ manavini baguga
7. Thani

Doesn't it come from Sri Chingleput Ranganathan?

Thank you. Glad you liked it.

Yep. One can also see shades of Sowmya in her performance.

Incidentally she sang #3 as:

Ramanukku mannan...... mudi tharithaaley...

which I found to be an interesting variation.

I heard her once two years ago and liked her singing. She sounded very pleasing too, especially after another talented young singer's vigorous singing. Yes, sweet singing which has matured more, you say. Any samples of her singing?

Ranjani Hebbar had most of her intense vocal training from Sowmya and Sowmya's father Dr. Srinivasan. The tutelage under Sri Chengalpet for pallavi and related stuff is of very recent vintage.
