The mirudhangam arangetram function of chi. Akshay Anand took place at the above hall on 30th May. He is an young boy of 13 yrs from Bangalore.

5. 13yrs old Akshay anand had his intial training from Rajakesari iof Bangalore for 3 yrs and later became the student of KA Kalidas.

6.The concert started at 18 15 hrs

Neela Ram gopal Vocal

Charulatha Ramanujam Violin

Akshai Anand Mirudhangam

slokam in kanada

Neranammi varnam Kanada

Pranamamyaham Gowla R & S

Nathupai Madhyamavathi R, N & S

Sobilllu sapthaswara Jagan mohin

Munnu ravana Thodi R,N,S & T

All the kritis were in different thalam and thani in 10 aksharam was excellent. The boy has high potential and easily come up to top level on constant practice. All were spell bound and did not move out and enjoyed the solo of the young Akshai. Neela Ramgopal's rendition of kritis was good . There was a little problem in singing 'Irandam kalam' swaram on the varnam initially. She forgot the lyrics in the main piece [thodi]and immediatly referred the note book and managed. Her eduppu of thodi was little ambiguous at first as she did not bring out the full swaroopam of the raga. While finishing the thani she little fumbled in aligning with the pallavi. Charulatha's Madhyamavathi and Thodi were excellent and her contribution to the concert was enormous. Everybody enjoyed the performance of the young Akshai

The following artistes were honoured with garland and shawl by Akshay's parents.

TK Murthy, prof TRS, Suguna varadachari , K A Kalidas. Guruprasad, Mannar Koil J Balaji, Brinda Manickavachagam and Srimathi Vasanthi ramesh were all honoured

TK Murthy

He mentioned that the style of the Guru should not be changed on any account and should follow the same. He has been following the style ot Thanjavur Vaidhyanathar even now. Akshay has a bright future. There was no ' adithadi ' in his playing and it was very pleasing to the ears. It has Natham and his guru has taught him nicely. Pukka PSP' style and he has to continue the same style.

TRS

Though this is his debut performance it is totally good. He did thisram , misram etc in his thani with 10 aksharams nicely. His guru is praise worthy and taken pains in training this boy. He will given chance in his sabha during this December season and whenever the boy visits Chennai, will be offered chance in sabhas. In earlier PMI also played like this as a boy. At this remark a rasika mentioned that TKM also as a young boy played miruthangam. In HM the percussion is known as Gharana and PSP's Gharana is unique. This boy is guranteed of concerts whenever he visits Chennai by this humble patron [TRS] of this young Artiste.

Suguna Varadachari

She blessed the boy for his bright future. Natham is good on his hands . The young Akshay has dedication . Parents' co operation is more in his case.

KA Kalidas

The boy has enormous knowledge by birth and grasping power is more. HIs Gumkis are pleasing to ears and he only shaped the boy and did not teach much. He has to listen to stalwarts performance and enhance his knowledge without getting carried by the praises. He mentioned that he is not compromising with the quality of the style as he has not taken this art as profession.

Vote of thanks by the parent Anand was elaborate and mentioned each and everybody including his relatives who were responsible for the success of this function.

The boy is a left hander reminding the Guru PSP. The function was well organised and Mannar Koil Balaji took care of the stage requirements of the boy. The entire hall was full of Vidwans and vidhushis reminding me of PSP's of Gurupuja held recently. All rasiksa were given a carry on pack of Mysore pau of Krishna sweets at the end. Vidwan M Chandrasekaran was present till the end.

Thanjavooran, thank you for the report. Congratulations to Akshay! I think the guru's name is K.S. Kalidas (not K.A.)
If Akshay, his dad or folks in touch are reading this - please update http://kpjayan.wordpress.com/upcoming-c ... bangalore/ for Akshay's Bangalore debut :)
